An intriguing little gem coming straight from director Rian Johnson’s personal Vimeo page, the video embedded above is an early test “trailer” made for his 2012 film Looper . As Johnson explains it: “This is a strange curiosity I thought might be interesting – just after I finished the script for Looper but before we began preproduction I asked Joe to record some voice-over, and with help from my friend Ronen Verbit constructed this “fake trailer” using clips from other movies. This is a fairly common thing to do when you’re trying to get a movie off the ground, but it was the first time I tried it. It was meant to show more some of the film’s tone, and to show how the odd concept could be presented in a clear and compelling way in the marketing. Zach Johnson did the sketches. Note that we hadn’t begun the casting process yet, and the clips were chosen just based on their visuals and not by who is in them.” ...

A Looper le gustarÃa ser otra pelÃcula. No es que la pelÃcula que efectivamente es estÃ© mal. Se trata de un thriller del futuro cercano con una delicada atmÃ³sfera de desesperaciÃ³n y que logra aprovechar el paisaje y la puesta en escena, con dos buenas interpretaciones de dos actores que dan vida al mismo personaje. Hay tiros, explosiones y una resoluciÃ³n razonablemente satisfactoria en lo que a la trama se refiere. Por ser, es tambiÃ©n un comentario simple pero efectivo sobre la memoria como fuente de nuestra sensaciÃ³n de ser alguien. No estÃ¡ mal haber logrado esas cosas. Hay muchas pelÃculas que no llegan ni a eso. Pero por desgracia, Looper aspira a mÃ¡s, e invierte dos horas en intentar elevar esos mimbres. El resultado es una construcciÃ³n que es incapaz de soportar el peso de todo lo que se le echa encima. Sobre todo, quiere ser el equivalente cinematogrÃ¡fico de âTodos vosotros zombisâ de Robert Heinlein, una muestra tan absolutamente perfecta del viaje en el tiempo, un ejercicio de engarce tan preciso que se convierta en la versiÃ³n definitiva. Por desgracia, no le ayuda nada tener una versiÃ³n del viaje en el tiempo bastante incoherente y arbitraria, y que la lÃ³gica ferrea precisa para el fin que busca estÃ© totalmente ausente del guiÃ³n. Es comprensible que fuese necesaria alguna forma de viaje en el tiempo para poder enfrentar a un personaje joven con su versiÃ³n mucho mÃ¡s madura, pero casi hubiese sido ...
