At 3 PM Eastern or Noon Pacific, the Tulsa Shock without Skylar Diggins (due to Notre Dame's commencement ) faces Candace Parker and the LA Sparks to hopefully get that first win of the Preseason. After that at 6:00 PM. Brittney Griner makes her debut in a Mercury jersey as they face the Japan National Team at 6:00 PM. Like the Dream's and Mystics' matches vs. the Brazil National Team last week, I don't expect this game to be more than just a tune up for the Mercury. And there's more! The NBA Western Conference Finals also begin today with the 5th seeded Memphis Grizzlies playing the 2nd seeded San Antonio Spurs . The Grizzlies are in their first ever Conference Finals appearance after beating the Oklahoma City Thunder four games to one, which definitely came from the fact that Russell Westbrook suffered a knee injury in the first round vs. the Houston Rockets . And the Spurs defeated the Golden State Warriors , four games to two. Golden State just happened to be the final "large market team" in the Western Conference playoffs. In fact, including the Eastern Conference Finals' teams which are the Miami Heat and the Indiana Pacers , three of the four teams left in the NBA Playoffs are not in "large market" metro areas. Two Preseason Games: New York hosts rival Connecticut; and DC plays Minnesota in Bismarck, ND

So here are the games: 1. Connecticut Sun at New York Liberty, 4 PM ET at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ This is the Sun's second Preseason game and they'll play against the New York Liberty team that hopes to erase the debacle that was when they played the Sky on Wednesday . Given that the Libs lost to the Sun last weekend (read Queenie's post here ) I still think they'll lose again for whatever reason. More Links : Kara Lawson wins Staley Award Liberty preview 2. Washington Mystics at Minnesota Lynx, 8 PM ET at the Bismarck Civic Center in Bismarck, ND No LiveAccess, etc., but in the Twin Cities, catch 106.1 BOB FM to listen to this game. If you don't know how big the Bismarck Civic Center is, it holds over 10,000 people according to its Wiki page. In addition, the team used to be home of the Dakota Wizards D-League team but it was bought out by Golden State Warriors majority Joe Lacob and moved to Santa Cruz, CA where the team is now known as the Santa Cruz Warriors. (Why does this site just always seem to revolve around that team? hmmmm.) To me, for the Mystics, this is a game for them to show what they can do against a top tier team and may be a barometer of sorts so they can see how far away they are from being that type of team, though I don't think that the Lynx starters will play that much give that they will play Connecticut, a more even opponent on Tuesday. It always seems a little awkward to me how the NFL handles the release of their scheduling information. First, they unveil the general timeline in which Preseason games will occur. Then, in mid-April, they release the entire regular season schedule , complete with dates and times for every team. The final step comes in mid-May, when they announce exactly when each team's Preseason games will take place. With that said, here are the dates and times for the Cleveland Browns ' 2013 Preseason games: Thursday, August 8th: St. Louis Rams vs. Cleveland Browns - 8:00 PM ET Thursday, August 15th: Detroit Lions vs. Cleveland Browns - 7:30 PM ET Saturday, August 24th: Cleveland Browns vs. Indianapolis Colts - 7:00 PM ET Thursday, August 29th: Cleveland Browns vs. Chicago Bears - 8:00 PM ET None of the Browns' games will be nationally televised during the Preseason, but they should be on WKYC locally, presumably featuring Jim Donovan and Bernie Kosar as usual. The Texans will play two geographically familiar teams versus Dallas and New Orleans.(Karen Warren/Houston Chronicle) The NFL announced dates and times of all Preseason games, including four Texans games. All but a nationally televised game against New Orleans will be played at 7 p.m. The Texans begin the Preseason schedule Aug. 9 at Minnesota. The Vikings beat the Texans in December and kept them from earning home-field advantage in the playoffs. The Texans play their first Preseason game at Reliant Stadium against Miami on Aug. 17. On Aug. 25, the Texans host the Saints in the nationally televised game. Kickoff time is 3 p.m. Four days later, the Texans finish Preseason with a game at Dallas.
