Volunteers Stephen Pe ñ a and Mayu Ferrer from MicroCreatives and Cecilia Lizan and Timothy Ambrocio from MicroSourcing PR & Marketing department prepared a three-hour training course to cover the basic functions of the software. They grouped with two to four students each in order to easily demonstrate drawing and painting tools. The trainers also covered Photoshop layers, the history palette, and other tools in the toolbox shortcut. Educational yet interesting exercises finalized the course. Some trainers had their students switch the faces and body parts of two different people in real-life pictures, while a few other students did an exercise on enhancing a famous icon's unattractive face. Everyone ended up with output that's simply out of the ordinary. The interns shared that they have always been amazed with Photoshop, software that can magically enhance photos and create captivating images. Apart from their personal interest in photo editing, they have also seen how different types of jobs like database management require this skill. While some people are skilled at drastically editing colors, I tend to focus on creating a web-safe color palette so that my gifs don’t appear too pixelated. My adjustments typically consist of a slightly increased contrast, lowered vibrance and saturation, playing around with the slider on levels, and curves that look similar to this: If you’re trying to make more severe changes to alter the original color, try experimenting with the hue slider for each color (I find it best to lower the master and yellow). Below is a quick unedited gif: Below is the edited version: This may not be the best example, but you can see less pixelation in his skin color, the background, and the black uniform. These edits usually result in a slightly lower file size which can be useful if you’re interested in sharpening your frames. ...

The app offers minor photo editing tools like crop, straighten, rotate, flip, and even remove red-eye due to head on flash. In terms of color, it allows users to make some few adjustments to their snaps by changing the White Balance, Contrast and Brightness. Photoshop Express for Windows 8 and RT is also equipped with a handful of filters referred to as “Looks” for users who wanna add their personal touch to their photos. But the best feature in the package, in my opinion, is the Noise Reduction tool that, well as its name implies, lessens the amount of unwanted grains in your photo which is probably due to a high ISO setting. The skilled and diligent creative has produced remarkably believable surreal landscapes by hand in the dark room. Without the aid of photo editing software, Uelsmann uses multiple negatives and up to a dozen enlargers to create composite images that boast a wild imagination. The photographer's time-consuming technique was greatly revered before the advent of digital technology, especially before the rise of programs like Photoshop, for its innovative presentation of images that went beyond basic documentation. The images' artistic play on reality partnered with Uelsmann's skilled assemblage mesmerizes viewers, even today. His inventive and sometimes mind-boggling works blend opposing themes and visual motifs seamlessly into one frame. Man and nature become one and the impossible becomes possible in Uelsmann's surreal world. Be sure to check out the video, below, of Uelsmann revealing his multi-step process in the dark room.
Van Gogh paints DiCaprio: has Photoshop gone too far?

Source: www.guardian.co.uk --- Monday, May 20, 2013
Photoshopping masterpieces may be fun, but ultimately digital art – serious or not – is just a spectral echo of the real thing Let's start with a good laugh. An online competition has elicited some hilarious photoshopped versions of great paintings, with celebrity faces grafted on to masterpieces. Vermeer 's Girl with a Pearl Earring has become a portrait of Johnny Depp , while Bronzino's Portrait of a Young Man – which shows an arrogant 16th-century Florentine character clad in black and posing with hand on hip – is now a picture of Jack Nicholson . How long did people spend playing with images to create these diverting travesties of artistic masterpieces? How many valuable hours were sacrificed to giving a Vincent van Gogh self-portrait the features of Leonardo DiCaprio ? The impressive thing about these images is how they emulate the painting style of the artist, so we don't just see photos harshly sutured on to paintings; in the portrait of Van Gogh as DiCaprio, the actor's face appears to have been painted in thick brushstrokes. This is the latest in an apparently boundless gallery – or, if you prefer, a bottomless pit – of online remakes of great art. You may remember those hilarious Renaissance nudes transformed into skinny modern models , or you may have seen the Beyoncé art history site that superimposes her lyrics over historic works of art . It's all great fun … but, after the giggles are over, it fills me with gloom. ...

Source: psd.tutsplus.com --- Monday, May 20, 2013
One of the most effective ways to improve your concept art is to introduce motion into the scene. In this tutorial, we will show you how to create concept art for a zombie-themed video game. This piece will portray a couple of police officers fending off a hoard of zombies in the pouring rain. This tutorial also includes a stunning speed painting video, so make sure to watch it before you begin. Let’s get started! Speed Painting Video Before you begin, take a look at this stunning speed painting video that shows the entire process. Tutorial Assets To complete the tutorial, you will need the following assets: Fence brush pack Sci-fi Tech brush pack Stock Photo 1 1. Sketching it out Step 1 Create a new document by going to File > New . The document can be any size you prefer. I typically use A4 at 300 dpi just in case I want to print it later. For this piece, I am going to paint it in landscape at a 16:9 ratio as if I am working on a rough storyboard for a film. Feel free to reduce the size or resolution if your computer is not powerful enough to work in these dimensions. Step 2 Start by sketching out simple skeleton forms (As shown below). Get wild and don’t restrict yourself, explore and have fun at this stage, it opens up to a lot of possibilities when you’re doing this. If you already have a certain scene in mind, just jump in and start putting the lines in. You can use a default Photoshop chalk brush for the sketch, the brush y ...

Uncover Camera Settings: Be a Photo Detective Have you taken a photo and later been asked, “what where your settings?” Or have you looked at a session and thought, “how can I improve upon these next time?” Sometimes you may even see a photo online and wonder what settings another photographer used … For most photos, you can uncover information such as camera settings, metadata, copyright info, etc., even on photos that are not yours. Where to locate the information: Photoshop In Photoshop and PS Elements , you will find a wealth of information by following this path: FILE – FILE INFO. You can uncover camera settings of your images. Scroll down a bit if you have Lightroom to learn where to access it there. Once there, you will see tabs with various choices. It WILL look different depending on what version of Photoshop or Elements you use. It has changed through the years – as the recorded information gets even more sophisticated. My screen shots below are from Photoshop CS6, the current version as of this writing. Here is the basic camera info. In Photoshop CS6 it is under the Camera Data tab. You can see this image was shot with a Canon 5D MKIII and even see a serial number. You can see that I resized it for web since it is at 72 ppi and 900×600. You can also see that I used the NEW Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 Di VC lens . In this Photoshop tutorial, you are going to learn to the use of an incredible tool. This is the blur tool, or one part of part of the blur tool, the field blur in particular. When you apply the blur effect to your image, you are going to be able to adjust its amount differently for different parts of the image, giving it an overall amazing focus. 1. Open whatever image you would like to work on in Adobe Photoshop. This is the image we will be using in this tutorial: Image Link: Go to: Filter > Blur > Field Blur Your entire image will go blurry by default settings. You can simply adjust the amount of blurring by clicking the outer ring of this pin and dragging the cursor clockwise or anticlockwise, thereby increasing or decreasing the amount of blurring. But of course you can make the same changes by simply using the blur slider as shown below: So far the blur effect has been spread out on your entire image uniformly. But what you need to do now is only apply the blur effect to certain regions of the image. And to do this you are going to need more pins! So move your cursor around to another spot on the image and you will see an icon like that shown below: Now click and another pin will appear. Notice how you can operate only one pin at a time. You can also move pins around by clicking their centers and dragging them down ...
