The victory gave the Cats' youngster and the rest of Team USA the bronze medal. Bjugstad logged 8:15 of ice time in the game, had no shots on goal, won 2/3 faceoffs and finished with an even rating. He did not play in the third period or overtime as coach Joe Sacco decided to go almost exclusively with three lines. Craig Smith and Paul Stastny scored in the first period to stake the USA to 2-0 lead before a Lauri Korpikosky pair in the third sent the game to extra time. Montreal's Alex Galchenyuk second goal in the shootout proved to be the winner after Mikael Granlund missed in the fourth round. John Gibson was the winning goaltender while Antti Raanta took the loss for Finland. Goaltender Jacob Markstrom backed up Jhonas Enroth as Sweden beat Switzerland 5-1 to capture the gold medal. Henrik Sedin led the way for the Swedes with two goals and an assist. Roman Josi gave Switzerland a 1-0 lead at first period before Erik Gustafsson tied the game almost three minutes later. Sedin's first score, on a power play, gave Sweden a lead it would not relinquish. Simon Hjalmarsson and Loui Eriksson scored in the third period before Sedin's second, shorthanded into an empty-net, completed the scoring. Enroth stopped 26 saves to post the win while Martin Gerber got tagged with the first loss of the tournament for Swi ...

Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports The Florida PANTHERS had an absolutely miserable season, there’s no sugarcoating that. But in a season that was derailed by injury in the way that their 2013 campaign was, it’s not that hard to look and focus on the positives, rather than on the negative aspects of the year. One of those positive aspects was the way that Tomas Kopecky played in 2013. A cap casualty by the Chicago Blackhawks prior to the 2011-2012 season, Kopecky quickly proved to be a solid addition, which has been the case in both of his seasons with the organization. Kopecky has never been a guy that’s going to put up big points, but is a perfectly capable depth forward. Since his time in South Beach, he’s proven to be more than that for the PANTHERS, though. He’s been an impressive presence for this team both on and off the ice. If the 2013 season were a full 82-game campaign, Kopecky would have easily set some new career highs. He tied his career mark for goals in the shortened season, finishing with 15. In just 47 games, he was only 15 shy of his career high for points, finishing the year with 27. But Kopecky has proven to be a valuable guy in the locker room as well. A veteran presence in a young locker room, Kopecky brings plenty of experience, both in the regular season and in the playoffs. He’s worn the ‘A’ on several occasions. His combination of secondary scoring and leadership make him a bargain for the PANTHERS. For ...

Panthers reportedly haven’t asked Jon Beason to redo his contract

Source: www.yardbarker.com --- Saturday, May 18, 2013
According to Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer, the Carolina PANTHERS haven’t approached linebacker Jon Beason about restructuring his contract. Beason has a $9.5 milloin cap number for the 2013 season. With all of the injuries he’s suffered over the past few years, it would make sense for the PANTHERS to ask him to restructure his contract. But ultimately they have about $9.8 million in cap room, which isn’t bad. That might be why they have asked him to do anything. I’m sure if Beason has another season that’s plagued by injuries, the PANTHERS may ask him to restructure his contract. Need NFL Tickets? Because of the way the match-ups are set in the medal round, at least one of the two Cats' youngsters is guaranteed to leave the tournament with at least a bronze, but it sure would be exciting for PANTHERS fans to see the two meet in tomorrow's final. Look for Bjugstad to again skate on the USA's fourth line with Danny Kristo and Aaron Palushaj . Following his stellar performance against Canada, I would expect Buffalo's Jhonas Enroth to get the nod over "The Alien" between the pipes for Sweden.
