AH Primetime: What If Nokia Made an Android Phone?

Source: androidheadlines.com --- Saturday, May 25, 2013
<img src="http://androidheadlines.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Lumia-1024x699.jpg" & width="150" & height="102" style="margin: 5pt 10px 0px 0px; float: left;" border="1" align="left" alt="" />If you’re anything like me. your first mobile phone was probably a NOKIA. My first phone was, a trusty NOKIA 3510i. It had a color screen, supported MMS, and the sides lit up when I had a call or a message. If my talk-time was low, I could get two weeks from a single charge. That’s how many people regarded NOKIA – the company which was once synonymous with making mobile devices. In a relatively short time they’ve gone from global domination to pretty much feeding off the scraps of Android and Apple (although NOKIA still have sizable market share in the developing world). Another thing that many people would associated NOKIA with is Windows Phone. The partnership between NOKIA and Windows hasn’t exactly proved to be a successful one – and after almost three years Windows Phone accounts for just 3.2 per cent of the global smartphone market, which is pretty poor, but still better than Blackberry which is now sitting at just 2.9 per cent. For all of the promotional efforts done worldwide from both Microsoft and NOKIA in those three years, 3.2 per cent is a very low figure compared to Android’s 75 per cent dominance and Apple’s 17.3 per cent share of the same global market. The decision to put all of NOKIA’s eggs in the Windows Phone basket lies with Stephen Elop. Formerly one of the heads at Microsoft Office, Elop is NOKIA’s under-fire Canadian CEO who has oversaw a poor take-up of his former companies operating system on NOKIA’s dev ...

To summarize this review, I think the NOKIA Lumia 928 is the best Windows Phone 8 device out right now and also the best NOKIA device right now. I said the exact same thing when I reviewed the NOKIA Lumia 920, but the 928 has a few improvements. It improves on the camera flash with xenon and it is also available on the very reliable and fast Verizon LTE network. If you’re an Android or iPhone user looking to switch, the Windows Phone 8 experience feels refreshing. Many of your favorite apps are also showing up in the Windows phone store. The app selection may not be as big as Android or iPhone right now, but it is getting better each day. In this review, I talked about some of the important features on the NOKIA Lumia 928, but I think a major selling point is the price. The suggested price is only $99 with contract, but keep watching Amazon. You can get it cheaper there. Those who do not want to sign up for 2 year contracts can buy the phone for $499.
Another Nokia 808 vs Galaxy S4 data point

Source: www.allaboutsymbian.com --- Saturday, May 25, 2013
<img src="http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/images/news/misc/dxomark.png" & width="150" & height="52" style="margin: 5pt 10px 0px 0px; float: left;" border="1" align="left" alt="" />You'll remember that I recently took seven common end-user 'snap' scenes with a number of smartphone cameras and concluded, that for these scenes at least, the new Samsung Galaxy S4 matched the NOKIA 808 PureView overall , much to my surprise. But we do have another respected data point on all this, courtesy of digital camera specialists DxO and their DxOMark report, quoted below. From their page , which aggregates ratings from a number of stills and video tests: Achieving a DxOMark score of 75 overall puts the rear-facing camera module of the Samsung Galaxy S4 comfortably ahead of the pack. That’s no mean feat as the bunch includes the handset maker’s own Galaxy Note II and S III as well as Apple’s iPhone 4s and latest iPhone 5, all achieving a very respectable 72 in our DxOMark scores. However, it can’t quite topple the 41-Mpix NOKIA 808 PureView . Sitting in the top position in our ratings that model achieved a DxOMark score of 77 points. While that model uses a larger sensor with much higher pixel count to achieve its excellent low-light scores, the Samsung Galaxy S4 can’t match that with noise reduction only. In bright light, it’s a different story. The S4 makes good use of its fast efficient AF and rob ...
