I SEOed the shit out of that title. I was expecting a bit more in terms of graphics when EA Sports announced and debuted a trailer for FIFA, Madden, NBA Live and UFC at the unveiling event for the new Xbox One today. What we see here is basically a well-choreographed cutscene – yes, likely from the game engine – containing no actual gameplay footage. This looks great, but is it going to look like this when you’re actually playing? We don’t know yet. And come to think of it, the Madden footage doesn’t look that different from the Madden 06 trailer that featured Donovan McNabb and Terrell Owens. At the Stifel Nicolaus 2013 Internet, Media and Communications Conference today, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen announced that NBA Live 14 will be releasing this year for next generation consoles, which we can only assume to mean the PS4 and next Xbox. Jorgensen stated that the newest NBA Live would “come out on Gen 4″ which was a reference to the fourth generation of consoles (technically Microsoft’s third with the next Xbox). A concrete release date should show up in the coming weeks. NBA Live has always been one of the EA’s odder sports titles. Rather than minting the money like Madden or FIFA, the company rebooted the series in mid-2010 with plans to release it as NBA Elite 11 in the fall. Afterwards, the game was canceled and shifted to EA Tiburon, which would begin work on NBA Live 13. Unfortunately, that game was also canceled. EA later announced that the Live series would return in 2013. ...

After lying dormant for eight months since posting the announcement of NBA Live 13′s cancellation EA Sports today sent out a message via multiple NBA Live social platform accounts that NBA Live 14 is “coming to a court near you”. The timing is notable as the tease emerges just days before the Microsoft next-gen console reveal which could very well feature an EA presence and is rumored to include some element of exclusivity among the announcements. Should nothing with EA materialize at that event game announcements are expected at E3 through the Microsoft press conference and the EA press conference – both of which take place on June 10. Last night during Electronic Arts’ quarterly earnings call, EA Labels president Frank Gibeau said that his company was planning a “full reveal” of their games at the upcoming E3 conference. He also said that “this will include breakthroughs in graphics and gameplay for some of our biggest franchises including Battlefield , FIFA , Madden , NBA Live , and Need for Speed .” The last few years have not been good for the NBA Live franchise. Their last release was in October of 2009 (NBA Live 10). They then retitled the franchise to NBA Elite . NBA Elite 11 was delayed for “concerns of gameplay polish”, but was later cancelled. The same story repeated for the next couple years. Because of the delays, 2K Sports has taken and ran with the NBA series, so it’s going to be interesting to see how gamers react to NBA Live coming back.
