Release Date: May 13th, 2013 A few months ago, we sat down with Mike Stud , where he told us he was excited for his new project. Today, it’s easy to see why. Since putting his name on the map with “College Humor” and “In This Life” (the latter of which reached #2 on the U.S. iTunes Hip Hop/Rap Album charts), Stud’s profile has grown at a breakneck pace (see A Toast to Tommy and his 2012 mix-tape, Sunday Stud Day ). Now, at age 24 (and no longer living in his Georgetown dorm room), Stud makes his biggest mark with Relief . Perhaps expectedly, the album draws on parties, girls, success and personal development. The album isn’t perfect, but then again – what is? The album showcases Stud’s evolution as an artist (“Bad Habits”, “Thank You”, “Past Gone”), while also paying nostalgic tribute to his early work (“Batter Up”, “Fuck That”). Lyrically, Stud’s maturity is evident on “Past Gone” and “Bad Habits”, which won’t garner radio play, but should become a staple of his live show.
