Source: www.rantsports.com --- Friday, May 17, 2013
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports According to Brian Murphy of fftoolbox.com , San Diego Chargers head coach Mike McCoy told Sports Illustrated’s Peter King that Philip Rivers could complete 70 percent of his passes this season. McCoy made a bold statement because according to pro-football-reference.com , this has only been done five times by four quarterbacks in NFL history. New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees completed over 70 percent of his passes in 2009 and 2011. Former San Francisco 49ers quarterbacks Joe Montana and Steve Young completed 70 percent of their passes in 1989 and 1994, respectively, and former Cincinnati Bengals QB Ken Anderson accomplished this in 1982. Rivers completed 66 percent of his passes in 2010 when he led the NFL with 4,710 passing yards and that was the highest completion percentage of his career. Vincent Jackson , Antonio Gates and Malcom Floyd were San Diego’s leading receivers in 2009 and they missed 22 games in 2010 when Rivers completed 66 percent of his passes. San Diego’s offensive line has to play better in 2013 than they did in 2012 when they allowed 49 sacks which ranked fourth-worst in the league. If the offensive line can protect Rivers, he is capable of completing 70 percent of his passes in 2013. San Diego’s receivers have to play better as well because they ranked 13th in receptions, 22nd in receiving yards and 30th in yards per reception last season. Rivers ranked ninth in the NFL with 26 touchdown ...

Source: www.yardbarker.com --- Monday, May 13, 2013
According to Peter King of SI.com, San Diego Chargers head coach Mike McCoy believes Philip Rivers can complete 70 percent of his passes in 2013. McCoy said he thinks Philip Rivers, who has never completed more than 66 percent of his throws in seven starting seasons, can be a 70-percent passer in his new offense. ‘I’ve been blown away by his anticipation and willingness to learn,” McCoy said. That Rivers has 35 interceptions in the last two years is an indication to many who watch the Chargers that he can get too confident in his ability to fit balls downfield into small holes. McCoy will harp on trusting the system that has a myriad of answers, always including one short one — thus his belief the completion percentage can improve. If Rivers is going to complete a high percentage of his throws, McCoy better make sure he has a good running game to support him as well as an offensive line that can pass protect. Both have been missing for a few years now. Need NFL Tickets? ...

Chargers HC Mike McCoy wants to help QB Philip Rivers complete 70 percent of his passes

Source: www.fftoolbox.com --- Monday, May 13, 2013
Philip Rivers was one of the most productive quarterbacks in the league from 2008 through 2010. He averaged 30 touchdowns and just 11 interceptions to go with about 4,300 passing yards. After a couple of down years, Chargers head coach Mike McCoy thinks Rivers can be that good again and that he can be even better in one department: completion percentage. McCoy told Sports Illustrated's Peter King that if Rivers trusts McCoy's system, a bigger diet of short passes will help Rivers complete 70 percent of his throws this season. Rivers' career high in completion percentage is 66.0. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Many of Rivers' 35 interceptions these past two seasons have come on heaves down the field, putting the ball up for grabs with no real hope of success. That won't happen as much with McCoy now at the helm, and it should mean we see Rivers make smarter throws and not be so turnover-prone. I am still a Rivers supporter, and not because I live close to San Diego. I think he is a really good player who has just made way too many senseless decisions in recent seasons. I think McCoy is going to get him on the right track. Plus, Danario Alexander looked like a No. 1 WR last year. Malcom Floyd and Vincent Brown are both healthy. Keenan Allen was a steal in the draft, and tight end Antonio Gates has a couple of good years left in him. I just don't see how Rivers can fail with that supporting cast. He will be one of my favorite QB2 choices in draf ...

Source: www.yardbarker.com --- Monday, May 13, 2013
Been a rough couple of years for Philip Rivers. He has been a turnover machine and the Chargers have faltered. They got rid of Norv Turner and brought in Mike McCoy to hopefully changed the franchise fortunes. He has high expectations for Rivers according to Pro Football Talk. In an interview for Monday Morning Quarterback on SI.com, McCoy told Peter King that he believes Philip Rivers is capable of becoming a more accurate quarterback than he’s been over the course of his career. When it comes to completion percentage, Rivers’ best single-season mark is 66 percent and he’s completed 63.6 percent of his throws over the course of his entire career but McCoy believes that Rivers can connect on 70 percent of his throws in the 2013 season. Rivers is 31 years old, so it isn’t like his career is over after a couple of bad seasons, but you have to wonder if his fall is permanent or can he bounce back. Big Ben and Eli are shining their rings, time maybe running out for Rivers. ...

Source: www.rantsports.com --- Sunday, May 12, 2013
Jody Gomez-USA TODAY Sports Rookie mini-camps opening up on Friday signaled the true dawning of a new era for the San Diego Chargers . New General Manager Tom Telesco has already put his imprint on an overhauled roster, and this milestone along with the upcoming OTAs would allow new Head Coach Mike McCoy to do the same. The praise for both is sure to come by the bucketful as the 2013 NFL season progresses. It has certainly already started with Telesco who has been nearly universally lauded for his effort in April’s NFL Draft to retool this team. Many feel that the Bolts added not one, not two, but three first round caliber players in the rounds one, two, and three respectively. D.J. Fluker is a mauling right tackle who was largely considered the best run blocker in the entire draft class, Manti Te’o ’s off-field concerns don’t detract from his on-field success, and Keenan Allen is a hard worker who just flat-out know how to get open. Finding three players with a consensus opinion that is that positive in one draft class will certainly garner some adoration. As for McCoy, he was also impressed after the first day of mini-camp. He immediately named the first rounder Fluker as the standout according to the Chargers’ team website . According to McCoy: “D.J. Fluker did a heck of a job. When you see kids that come from Alabama, the way they’ve been coached, he really was the leader out there on offense today. It’s great to see that because ...

You can tell they have a plan and are very confident of the future. They're not scared of anybody, and every single player is being evaluated with fresh, unbiased eyes and that includes even Philip Rivers and Ryan Mathews. Norv just seemed confused every offseason, kinda like he's just here to take orders and gobble around. Aj, well we never saw Aj. But on the rare (holy crap the worlds ending) days we DID manage to see Aj he'd always seem to be frowning! It drove me nuts! He'd approach an interview all gloomy like he was on constant suicide watch or something. And even if the evil gremlin did make an appearance, he'd muff around and say "What done is done" and then slither way into his office. I can see such a huge benefit of a fresh head-coach and a fresh GM coming in new together. You can really tell these guys communicate and are open minded. No bias, here to do whatever they can to make us better. Afterall, asking LT to come back in a cameo role is about as open minded as you can get. Bring on the season! :logo Josh ...

Source: espn.go.com --- Monday, April 29, 2013
If Tim Tebow is going to land with another NFL team, the natural thinking is to wonder if someone he formerly played for could be interested in adding him. Thus, it is logical to wonder if Mike McCoy and the San Diego Chargers would be interested in adding Tebow, who was cut Monday after one season with the New York Jets. McCoy was Tebow’s offensive coordinator in Denver where Tebow tasted NFL success. Could I see McCoy adding Tebow? Probably not. ...
