How busy does it get on a typical one of these Friday nights? I would assume after 8 there is no shortage of ricers whoopin' on everyone with their fart pipes, huge wings, and stickers, but seriously, can you get a decent amount of testing in? I just can't make Milan on a weeknight, Stanton doesn't seem to want to ever run, especially a TNT so this looks to be most feasible for immediate needs. Thanks ...

Just got this email from the Barefoot guys. It is a fun tournament- I wanted to invite you to come play some ultimate frisbee under the lights in Tupelo, MS on Friday, July 19th and Saturday July 20th at the 4th Annual Midnight Madness Tournament. We will begin games around 7 or 8 pm on Friday night and play until early Saturday morning, then we will continue play Saturday night and play until we crown a champion. Please let me know if you are interested so we can reserve the appropriate number of fields. The past 3 years we have had about 8-11 teams each year. We have had all skill levels (from beginners to more advanced) and we have had a lot of fun. The cost will be around $250 per team. What do you think people? Even though we're only projected for 2nd division finish in Big 10, is there enough excitement around the program to warrant having a Midnight Madness type of event for the upcoming season? We have a good group of frosh coming in, along with the transfers. Or should we wait until '15 when hopefully some studs will be here to really get things ramped up? ...

Midnight Madness will come two weeks earlier this year. The NCAA announced Friday that teams now have 42 days (six weeks) to hold their 30 preseason practices, starting this fall. Previously, teams only had four weeks to schedule in those 30 practices. The college basketball season begins Nov. 8, so practices can start on Sept. 27. The NCAA also decided at the Division I Board of Directors meeting Thursday to eliminate the requirement that practices must start after 5 p.m. on the first day, paving the way for Midnight Madness to return to its namesake and have practices actually start at Midnight. Previously, the NCAA had considered giving teams 40 days to fit in their 30 preseason practices, but by changing the maximum to 42 days, Midnight Madness events can be held on Friday instead of Sunday. The 2013-14 season, with its mix of proven returning talent nationwide and influx of highly touted newcomers, was already drawing hype. Now, we will be able to see the actual product sooner. ...

(Al Goldis/AP) Midnight Madness, the annual kickoff to the college basketball season’s official practices that was no longer held at Midnight, now will no longer be held in October, either. The NCAA announced on Friday that a long-discussed proposal has been approved that now provides teams with the ability to hold up to 30 practices in the 42 days (six weeks) before the start of the season. This year, the season tips off on Friday, Nov. 8. And maybe we’ll get back to wackier times for the on-campus events, as well? The NCAA release also said that the requirement to wait until 5pm to hold the initial practices has been removed. The 42-day period was set to have the first practices also land on a Friday instead of a Sunday, to help enable bigger events on campus. So, Mid-morning Madness? Midday Madness? Get creative, college promotional staffs! This is a welcome development, setting the men’s calendar closer to the one the women’s game has been operating on, and closing the gap between the end of summer and the start of “official” practice. With the 2013-14 season dripping with potential intrigue, getting into the heart of it sooner sounds just fine. ...
