* M ichelle Williams may have finally found her niche in theater. The former Destiny’s Child singer and gospel artist told MTV News about her experience on the “ Fela! ” tour. “It feels amazing to be involved with ‘Fela!’ because I said that between each album, I wanted to do a theater run,” Williams told MTV News. “I’m on my fourth album, and this is my fifth show, actually, so I’m on time. I just need to catch up on an album so it’s five and five, but it’s an amazing experience for me to do both.” She played the role of ‘Sandra Isadore,’ Fela’s love interest. “What I like about Sandra is that she saw something in Fela,” she said. “Fela was definitely passionate about his music and passionate about what he was feeling – he knew things were going wrong in Nigeria, he knew there was corruption going on – but [he was] emotional about things [that he hadn't] studied, researched and gotten all the facts [about], and that’s what Sandra helped him to do. I like how she loved him, saw the potential in him and she helped him to learn more about himself and his country.” Michelle expressed her appreciation for the learning process, joking about how she managed to get through the tour without one nervous breakdown. ...

(CNN) — NBC has retooled its Thursday night lineup to include three new comedies, but in the fall the network will have competition in that category from CBS. The network announced on Wednesday that their fall 2013 schedule will include five new series, including new comedies from Robin Williams, Anna Faris and Will Arnett, whose show on NBC, “Up All Night,” has been canceled. Swizz Beatz, Michelle Williams, and Rico Love at the SESAC awards. “What’s a song without lyrics?” This question echoed throughout the evening as the 2013 SESAC Pop Music Awards honored songwriters with heartfelt speeches, musical performances and fine dining. Some of the industry’s biggest names—Michelle Williams, Swizz Beatz, Melanie Fiona—praised the pens behind the hits. “People like Whitney Houston and Luther Vandross didn’t write their songs, but they connected to people and they had writers gifted enough to tell their story in a way that was believable,” said PJ Morton, a R&B songwriter and Maroon 5′s newest keyboardist. Rico Love, Nate “Danja” Hills, Nikhil Seetharam, Jacob Luttrell, Psy and more were recognized for writing hit songs in 2012. Andy Allo, Melanie Fiona, Angela Hunte and Michelle Williams attend SESAC Awards. Guests agreed that writers seldom receive proper praise for a song’s success. “We’re probably the most under credited people in the business, yet it all starts with us,” said Angela Hunte, a Grammy-winning SESAC songwriter. There are plenty of music events devoted to showering our favorite pop stars in awards — from the Grammys to the Billboard Music Awards. The SESAC Pop Awards, on the other hand, are an annual celebration of the talented players behind-the-scenes, including the industry’s finest songwriters, producers and executives. This year’s ceremony, which was hosted last night at the New York Public Library, saw acts like Danja , Swizz Beatz and Omarion picking up awards for their contribution to pop music over the past year. We got a chance to chat with Michelle Williams , who was on hand to present Rico Love with the Songwriter of the Year award, about her upcoming album. “I’m very excited! It’s an urban inspirational record,” the singer gushed to Idolator about the new record, which was largely produced by Harmony Samuels , as well as Warryn Campbell and Adam Blackstone. She also spoke of her upcoming don’t-call-it-a-comeback collaboration: A few weeks ago, we learned that Williams will be featured on a song off of fellow Destiny’s Child member and “Kisses Down Low” enthusiast Kelly Rowland ‘s upcoming album, Talk A Good Game (oh, and Beyoncé too). “I met Harmony because he did some stuff for Kelly Rowland.
