The Warriors defeated the 76ers 96-89. Mandatory Credit: Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports The Philadelphia 76ers are now looking for their eighth head coach in 11 seasons after Doug Collins resigned as head coach. As Sixers begin to ramp up their coaching search, their star point guard Jrue Holiday already has their head coach in mind, according to John N. Mitchell of the Philadelphia Inquirer . Holiday, who averaged 17.7 points and eight assists per game cast his vote in favor of the promotion of associate coach Michael Curry. “I’ve known him for the last three years,” Holiday said Wednesday in a telephone interview. “He’s somebody I trust, and somebody I’d love as a head coach.” Curry is known for his defensive strategies, which helped the Sixers allow only 96.5 points per game (ninth in the NBA). “I think he was the glue to our team last year,” Holiday said of Curry. “Obviously we were defensive-based, which is big for us. That was our calling card, and Mike was responsible for that.” Holiday isn’t the only player on Philadelphia’s roster that feels the same way. Philadelphia’s former No. 2 overall pick Evan Turner thinks Curry would be great for the organization as well. “We really don’t have a lot of room to st ...

Mike Malone , Mike Budenholzer , Quin Snyder, Brian Shaw , and Jeff Hornacek have all been rumored. None of those are terrible choices. But Evan Turner and Jrue Holiday , well, they'd like current Sixers assistant coach Michael Curry to wear the Sixers coaching headdress, were such a thing to exist. Jrue brings up defense and familiarity to make his case. I've known him for the last three years. He's somebody I trust, and somebody I'd love as a head coach. I think he was the glue to our team last year. Obviously we were defensive-based, which is big for us. That was our calling card, and Mike was responsible for that. Evan, meanwhile, tossed a few parting shots at Doug Collins, who has awkwardly enough already suggested the team hire Curry as his replacement. He was great because he was calm in certain situations, and that helps. He never really panicked. That's something that players need. I think it would be great for the organization. We respect Mike. We really don't have a lot of room to start all over again when you look at us. Wait, what was that last thing, Ev? You want to build on the excellence that was last season and not start over? Yeah that seems like a good plan. My response to this, were I Josh Harris, w ...

The loss of High Street solicitors would also have a severe impact on barristers. Michael Turner QC, head of the Criminal Bar Association, warned: “Our barristers’ system will fail. Our brilliant judiciary comes from the Bar. Once you have Tesco and G4S providing advocates, you will get Tesco and G4S judges in 10 years’ time. Make no bones about it, we are facing absolute devastation to what is the finest legal system in the world.” He rejected claims that Britain’s legal aid was the most expensive in Europe. “You have a different system there, with investigative magistrates who interview witnesses, and the big cost is the judicial spend.”….. Access to justice in a civilised society is fundamental to the Rule of Law and the rights enshrined in our Human Rights laws to a fair trial. The Independent covers the theme: New legal aid reforms end ‘justice for all’, lawyers warn England’s 800-year-old tradition of fair and open access to justice for all will be destroyed by sweeping Government plans to reform criminal legal aid, se ...

Michael Turner's DUI Arrest: Another Brick In The NFL Wall Of Shame

Source: www.sbnation.com --- Friday, April 26, 2013
It would seem that Michael Turner wanted to somehow compensate for the lack of speed he showed in Monday Night's Falcons win over the Denver Broncos . So naturally, Turner decided it was a fine idea to drive almost 100 miles per hour down I-85 early Tuesday morning after a night of celebrating said victory. It's thankfully something we don't see often from Falcons players. But with Turner being such a high profile player in the league, this will definitely affect the team going forward. Players make mistakes. People make mistakes. I understand that. But usually, and this is especially the case with NFL players, you have someone there looking out for your well-being. Did no one stop him? Say "hey man, this might not be a good idea"? He was caught speeding down the highway after what only could have been a night out celebrating what was a fantastic victory on Monday Night, people knew what was going on. What's more, Turner base salary this season is just over $5M. If you or I had that kind of money at our disposal, would it really be that hard for us to call a cab? A friend? A helicopter? I'm sure he could afford one. It's blatant carelessness. If I can put on my faux-psychologist cap for a moment, perhaps Atlanta's feature back is feeling down because his production has slipped? His future isn't exactly bright any more. And that leads me to one more interesting point in this whole ordeal. Turner only has 74 yards on 28 carries this ...
