It was just two years ago when the Grizzlies became the third No. 8 seed in NBA playoff history to upset a No. 1. That top-ranked team was the Spurs. Fast-forward two years later and these teams clash in the Western Conference Finals, starting Sunday afternoon in San Antonio. Their paths to this point, both this season and as organizations, are wildly different. The Spurs are the benchm ...

Today we visited the Graceland Mansion. In the ticket package which we purchased there were 6 separate tours. Some of the tours were: his mansion (Obviously), his two airplanes, and his automobile collection. In the afternoon we went to see where we were originally camping but we had to change campgrounds because of flooding. Right when we drove into the campground we immediately saw water covering the road to the main office. For dinner we ate at Rendezvous which was an authentic Memphis BBQ restaurant and served famous ribs! I tried the rack of ribs and I ATE THE WHOLE THING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes! Life achievement! We then strolled down to Beale Street (a.k.a. Pervert Plaza, Slum Street, Alcohol Avenue, Loser Lane, Ratchet Road.) In other words it disgusted me. Like a wise saying my mother says "If I ever go there again it will be too soon!" Anyways goodnight all. Noah Greetings from Graceland! Today we went to Elvis' home in Memphis, Tennessee. This was about an 8 mile drive for us and we had to pass Krispy Kreme Donuts along the way, so we treated ourselves to a few donuts before heading to tour the mansion. If Graceland is an attraction you'd like to explore, we do have a few helpful hints that some fellow campers passed along to us. Before heading to Graceland, drive about 3 miles past there to the "Memphis Visi ...

They eliminated the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder. But they didn’t just eliminate them…they kicked the defending Western Conference champions to the curb in a mere 5 games. Of course, that was after taking care of the Los Angeles Clippers in 6. Yes, the Grizzlies have been doing their part to convince NBA followers that they are for real. And, as far as I am concerned, they have finally done the job on me. Follow @Ball_or_Nuthin // Usually, the NBA is friendly to teams who have a player that can get his own shot on a consistent basis. Not long ago, Memphis had one of those players in Rudy Gay. And, yes, they let him go. And I chastised them for it. But as it turns out, there have been a few reasons that the Grizz has flown past expectations – and directly into the Western Conference Finals: Randolph and Gasol Took Kendrick Perkins and Serge Ibaka to the Woodshed The Thunder never expect much of an offensive presence from Perk and I-block-a, but Scott Brooks does his rough and rugged duo to control the paint. That includes patrolling the glass, blocking shots and providing overall sense of interior domination that enables Oklahoma City’s perimeter players to take over the game. But in the Western Conference semifinal round, Perkins and Ibaka got taught a thing or two. Z-Bo and Marc Gasol destroyed the Thunder in the paint. There was no doubt that they woul ...

In part due to Danny green and Kawhi Leonard, the young stars were phenomenal in defending both Curry and Thompson. It is because of these rising players that the spurs will have the advantage. The season series was split 2-2, but neither team was complete for any of the four games. This series will showcase both teams at full strength. The Grizzlies and DPOY Marc Gasol, versus Tony Parker Tim Duncan and a lethal team of young stars. At 6’7 Leonard has the size and wing span to disrupt shooters and he as physical as most when it comes to rebounding. He is resilient and shows a knack for locking down players. The Spurs defeated the Warriors 94-82. Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports Though the Miami Heat are ranked No.1 offensively and No.2 defensively as they make their way into the NBA Conference Finals , they no longer seem to be the indestructible behemoth they appeared to be some months ago. As the saying goes: the bigger they are, the harder they fall. Both San Antonio and the Memphis Grizzlies, in theory, have enough weapons in storage to take a run at the champs. And Miami has arguably had the easiest road to navigate to arrive at this juncture. Toss in that Dwyane Wade ’s knee is taped over more than a crime scene, and the 2013 NBA Conference Finals feel more than just ceremony―enough competition remains to at least question their chances of repeating as world champions. They play in a tiny market. They don't have a conventional superstar, though try and tell me Marc Gasol isn't one. They have made controversial moves. They have made moves that have gotten them absolutely killed by the media. They have made moves that should have been crippling to their franchise. But again, they stand four wins away from winning a brutal conference. How did this happen, and what does it mean? They have simply been lucky There is something to this. This theory is basically that they really aren't that good of a team, and have been blessed by teams that may have been superior had they been at full strength. The Los Angeles Clippers struggled with Blake Griffin hobbled; when he was healthier early in the series the Clippers jumped to a 2-0 series lead. Once past the Clippers they rolled through an Oklahoma City Thunder team missing one of the top 10 players in the world, and even without him each contest was quite close. Perhaps Russell Westbrook was the difference. I don't know how much stake to put in this; I think Memphis would have had a pretty good chance to beat the Thunder even with Westbrook with how good their defense is. Even if they would have been beaten handily, though, they are a small market team in the Western Conference who would have been right there w ...

Source: sportsillustrated.cnn.com --- Saturday, May 18, 2013
The Grizzlies enter the Western Conference finals on -- no hyperbole -- the ride of the franchise's lifetime. Never before has the organization won as many games as they won this year -- 56 -- and never before has it reached this point, just four wins from competing for a championship. The Spurs, of course, are simply back, mounted on a familiar horse: San Antonio has won four titles since 1999 and this will be their eighth appearance in the Western Conference finals in the last 15 years. The NBA might as well re-name this round "The Gregg Popovich Invitational" when he retires. ...

Amber Alert Canceled After Police Nab Accused Kidnapper in West Memphis

Source: wreg.com --- Friday, May 17, 2013
(West Memphis, AR) – An amber alert for a missing two-year-old was canceled after police track down her alleged kidnapper in Arkansas. The child was taken from Sandy Springs, Ga Friday morning from her mother. “I don’t trust him. He’s not a fit person for me to be around for my daughter to be around,” Sorrelle Torrez’s mother said her child’s father. She was too afraid to go reveal her name, but says she was dropping off her two-year-old at a babysitters Friday morning when the child’s father Zeb Lockette came up and tried to kidnap both of them. She got away, but Sorrelle was in the car. “She`s in the car seat. She`s awake. She`s crying. She’s scared,” she said. An amber alert was issued and after 6 scary hours a tip led to Lockette’s arrest in West Memphis. News Channel 3 caught up with the Arkansas State Police right after they pulled over his black Range Rover on the I-55 ramp near Southland Park. Police searched his car and found 2 year old Sorrelle safe. She was placed in state custody, while her father went to jail. Luis Abalos watched it all unfold from his car. “When they started coming a lot more cars more cops I said man this is not like a regular ticket you know like a speed limit ticket or something like that. I said man something else happened with this guy,” he said. Just as saw police surrounded the Range Rover, he says the amber alert on his phone went off. “I said I think this is the car the truck they are looki ...

Oklahoma City Thunder: Who played well vs. Memphis?

Source: blog.newsok.com --- Friday, May 17, 2013
The Memphis series is over, and it’s time to study some plus/minus numbers for the Thunder. Did anyone play well? The answer is yes, and some of the numbers will surprise you. For instance, no surprise that Kendrick Perkins had the worst plus/minus for the Thunder: -40. The Thunder was outscored by 40 points while Perk was on the court, and the consistency was startling — -8, -10, -6, -6 and -10 in the five games. We all could see that Perkins was struggling. But Reggie Jackson also had a dubious plus/minus, and we all thought Jackson played well. Jackson was minus 33 — -4, -14, -3, -7, -5. Here are all the plus/minus numbers for the Thunder: 1. Derek Fisher +12 2. Kevin Martin +4 3. Thabo Sefolosha -5 4. Serge Ibaka -6 5. Kevin Durant -11 6. Nick Collison -13 7. Reggie Jackson -33 8. Kendrick Perkins -40 Also, Hasheem Thabeet was a -3 and DeAndre Liggins was a -5. But plus/minus can be a little off-kilter if you don’t factor in playing time. So here are the numbers based on 36 minutes. In other words, measuring players on the same time basis. 1. Derek Fisher +3.2 2. Kevin Martin +1.0 3. Serge Ibaka -1.2 4. Kevin Durant -1.7 5. Thabo Sefolosha -1.7 6. Hasheem Thabeet -5.1 7. Nick Collison -5.3s 8. Reggie Jackson -6.3 9. Kendrick Perkins -12.4 10. DeAndre Liggins -14.4 Those are some interesting numbers. Here are my observations: * Fisher. Wow. Fish didn’t shoot all that well. But in a series in which the Thunder lost 4-1, Fisher ...
