Former Randy Ferbey team member Dave Nedohin has joined Edmonton skip Kevin Martin and given his bid at winning the Olympic curling trials new life. “It puts us as one of the top teams again instantly,” Martin said from Edmonton on Wednesday after the pair made their announcement. “This is an exciting time for team Martin.” Nedohin (2nd left) with the “Ferbey Four” in 2010 (Photo credit: Russell Ott-found on Wikipedia) Nedohin replaces John Morris, who surprised many when he departed the Martin foursome late last month after seven years. Morris then announced he was joining B.C. skip Jim Cotter’s team. “Obviously in this situation, once the change in our team was inevitable, Dave was obviously our first choice for so many reasons,” said Martin. His shot-making ability was at the top of the list. Nedohin joined Ferbey in 1997 and throwing final rocks helped win four Briers and three world championships. They used to be arch-rivals. Now they’re going to be teammates. Kevin Martin couldn’t stop smiling when he welcomed Dave Nedohin to his 2010 Olympic championship team on Wednesday at the Saville Community Sports Centre. Nedohin, who used to throw skip rocks for Randy Ferbey’s rink that won four Canadian men’s curling championships and three world titles a decade ago, fills the huge void left behind when John Morris decided to leave the Martin foursome seven months before the Olympic trials. Morris has since hooked up with Jim Cotter’s Okanagan team from Kelowna and Vernon, B.C., after seven seasons – most of them very successful – with Martin. “When I called Randy and asked him his opinion on the whole thing, he immediately said: ‘You’d be crazy not to,’ ” said Nedohin. “We were arch-rivals with Kevin for many years,” he continued. “The reality is because our teams were just so good. We had a huge amount of respect for their talent and what they had accomplished and what Kevin has accomplished for a long time. “It just comes down to two heavyweights living in the same city and in the same club.” Nedohin, who wasn’t going to curl next season so he could take care of his family while his wife, Heather, pursued an opportunity to go to the Olympic Games at Sochi, Russia, initially turned down Martin when first approached two weeks ago. The Memphis Grizzlies trek south and take on the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday Night where the visitors will be hungry to knot the series up at one — Martin is the key if the Thunder hope to take a commanding 2-0 series lead. When Russell Westbrook went down earlier this postseason, the expectations for Kevin Durant skyrocketed, but Martin’s name was not being thrown around as much as it should have. Perhaps overlooked, Martin has emerged as a go-to-guy this postseason and is scoring the rock at a career-high pace. In his last two playoff games, Martin has combined for 50 points which is the highest total in consecutive games in his playoff career. In one season with the Thunder, Martin has already played in more playoff games than he did in the previous eight years which includes time with the Sacramento Kings and Houston Rockets . Martin’s ability to find a comfort zone has been huge, but he must continue to shoot lights out if the Thunder hope to compete against a Memphis team that prides themselves on the defensive side of the ball. Based on the past 82 games, there is no significant proof that Kevin Martin can consistently score 25 points in this series. At least I don't think so. He's averaged 14 points on as the sixth man on the Oklahoma City Thunder and has scored 20-plus points 10 times on the season. Though the circumstances have forced Martin into a bigger role, the results may still be the same. He's scored 20+ in back to back playoff games so there's that to go off of, but the Memphis Grizzlies aren't the Houston Rockets . Defense is the team's motto and they take pride in shutting down some of the best players in the NBA and they have the personnel to contain K-Mart tonight. Here's Martin's shot chart from Game 1: Forcing Martin inside is a positive. He's one of the best three-point shooters in the world and once he gets going he becomes difficult to stop. Martin Kevan, best known throughout the gaming community as the voice behind Far Cry 3's Dr. Earnhardt, passed away on May 1 following a brief battle with Cancer, according to the Montreal Gazette . The 66 year-old actor, voice actor and author was born in Kenya and later raised in England and Montreal. While living in Quebec, Canada, Kevan was one of only a few anglophone actors to cultivate a successful career in both French and English languages. Martin Havlat left Wednesday's game halfway through the first period for, since it's the playoffs, undisclosed reasons. It didn't take long, however, for the reason to become completely disclosed, causing male hockey fans everywhere to cringe in unison. You see, according to Mike Halford from Pro Hockey Talk and David Pollak from the San Jose Mercury News, Kevin Bieksa speared Havlat in the groin.
