(Photo: ICTY) A ballistics expert testifying on behalf of wartime Bosnian Serb president Radovan Karadzic told the court this week that civilians were not the targets of artillery fire during the siege of Sarajevo. The witness, Zorica Subotic, told the court that she currently worked as a ballistics expert for Serbia’s justice ministry, and the defence presented her as a doctor in the sphere. She explained that at Karadzic’s request, she had produced an analysis of Bosnian Serb artillery activity in and around Sarajevo during the conflict. Her analysis showed that "it was obvious that civilians were not the target of the activity, especially when it involved modified air bombs,” Subotic said. The latter reference is to the use of aircraft bombs modified into self-propelled... Programme: International Justice - ICTY ...

After many months of calls and emails, I discovered that Ramiz had recently moved to the south of Holland, to live with recently discovered relatives. He was faring considerably better, all things considered, and his cousin and I set up a date and time for an in-person interview. For the planned meeting I traveled to Amsterdam, but all email and telephone communication between Ramiz’s family and myself abruptly ceased. Not easily deterred, I traveled by train to the south of Holland. With the aid of other Bosnian refugees, I eventually located the house, which had been temporarily vacated – a neighbor informed me that they were “on vacation.” It suddenly dawned on me that Ramiz’s family had had enough of snoopy journalists, even well-intentioned ones. Ramiz had had more than his quota of pain for one lifetime. I asked his cousin once what Ramiz thought of our interest and concern: “He says he is grateful that someone in America should care about him,” was the reply. Warning: This story is not for the faint-hearted... rlr/ Planet Earth --------------------- “This story is really too cruel to be expressed in words. It is told by the 46-year-old Bosnian Ramiz, whose complete family was massacred during the violence ...

Source: iwpr.net --- Friday, May 10, 2013
Convicted of genocide in December, General Zdravko Tolimir declined to appear voluntarily as defence witness for wartime president. Judges have granted Radovan Karadzic’s request to subpoena a convicted senior Bosnian Serb army officer to testify about events in Srebrenica in 1995. The officer, General Zdravko Tolimir, was assistant commander for intelligence and security in the Bosnian Serb army, or VRS. In December 2012, he was convicted of genocide and sentenced to life in prison. (For more, see Genocide Conviction for Serb General Tolimir .) Tolimir declined to testify voluntarily on behalf of Karadzic, who was his superior as wartime Bosnian Serb president. In his subpoena request, Karadzic said he expected the witness to testify that he never informed the accused that “prisoners from Srebrenica...
