Maine transfer Justin Edwards arrived at Kansas State for an official visit on Thursday. He committed to the Wildcats on Saturday. That’s how quickly Edwards was sold on the idea of finishing his college basketball career at K-State, according to a source with knowledge of Edwards’ decision. He will have to sit out a year, because of NCAA transfer rules, but will have two years of eligibility remaining after that. Edwards was considered one of the better transfers on the market. He chose to transfer from Maine in order to play in a more prestigious conference as an upperclassman. Edwards, originally from Canada, was a second-team all-conference guard last season, and hopes to add experience, size and scoring to K-State’s lineup. Just a few days after learning where K-State transfer Angel Rodriguez ended up , the Wildcats were able to land a transfer of their own. Justin Edwards, a 6-3 combo guard from Maine picked KSU today while visiting . What Kansas State fans will learn about Edwards is that he led the America East in scoring at 16.7 points per game, and that he was a stat stuffer averaging 5.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.9 steals. But what we've learned from analyzing years of previous transfers is that mid-career transfers are often high-volume, low-efficiency players. Does Edwards fit this mold? The short answer is yes. The longer answer is a bit more complicated. When he was on the floor he took 30% of the shots. For perspective, no player coached by Bruce Weber in his entire career has taken that many shots. Edwards has virtually no 3-pt shot (27% for his career) yet he insists on taking three a game. He's fairly efficient on 2s (49%) and he's an average free throw shooter (68%). At first glance, that's not particularly encouraging. But Edwards is a talented player. He's exceptionally athletic and can get the ball to the rim. Playing for Weber he won't have the opportunity to shoot at will, so the key for the coaching staff will be getting him to buy into the system and do what he's asked to do and nothing more. With two recruits on campus, this is shaping up to be an important weekend for the Kansas State basketball team. The Wildcats have two available scholarships remaining, and are currently using them to target Justin Edwards and Tanner Lancona. Both players have re-emerged on the recruiting scene recently. Edwards, a 6-foot-3 wing from Canada, decided to transfer from Maine in March in hopes of finishing his college career at a higher level. He averaged 16.7 points and 5.2 rebounds as a sophomore with Maine and is now receiving interest from K-State, Creighton, Iowa State, St. Louis and several other programs. CBS Sports reported that Edwards began his official visit at K-State on Thursday. He has also visited Iowa State and Creighton. Justin Edwards, who is transferring from Maine University, visited campus on Thursday as he looks for a new place to call home. Last season, Edwards averaged 16.7 points and 5.2 rebounds as a sophomore. He does a majority of damage getting to the rim and would give the Wildcats a player who can create opportunities for himself and others in the future.
