The Browns were able to double the investment the Learner family put out to bring the Browns back to Cleveland in 1999. Think about it folks. Browns fans will buy into crap football just to say they have a team to support. It doesn’t matter if the team wins or losses, the fans sell out game after game. The Learners not only doubled the money they paid for the team, they made millions of dollars for the 13 season’s they owned the team. Some fans see me as a Hater. They claim because I write articles that point out the truth, I must not be a Browns fan. Nothing could be further from the truth. I am a fan, who watched as the team I grew up loving packed up the moving truck and left town in the middle of the night. I am just as big of a fan as the next guy. I am also a fan that realizes the team doesn’t have to win football games to be successful. All... ...

There is little doubt that the NFL has to be getting worried about Haslam’s future as an NFL team owner. The speculation is that Haslam’s legal issues stemming from his family’s business allegedly defrauding some 250 trucking companies out of money could last for years and coast Haslam a ton of money. The NFL could be worried about Haslam’s financial condition taking a big hit due to legal expenses and the sums of money he would be forced to pay out to settle some of the claims. While there are some that think Haslam is a bottomless pit of cash, the NFL could be worried because they dropped the ball on the sale of the Cleveland Browns. This sale wa... ...

I am here because I want the Browns to be a stable football franchise that competes, wins, and does so consistently. If you haven't read Don Banks most recent piece as he discusses the Pilot Flying J scandal, Jimmy Haslam, The Browns, and how the NFL isn't planning to strip him of ownership, I suggest you do so here . Every year, each of us feels a sense of excitement that grows with the thought of summer. Longer days full of sunshine; warmth; outdoor activities and social gatherings: When the NFL team owners convene at a Boston airport hotel on Tuesday for their one-day spring meeting, the matter of Haslam's Pilot Flying J company being investigated by the government for a scheme involving diesel fuel rebate fraud will be the elephant in the room. In a league that covets stability and cringes at the effect that bad publicity can have on its reputation and bottom line, Haslam will naturally find himself in an unwanted spotlight among his 31 league partners. Here in Hawaii the first summer swell on the south shore arrived over the weekend. While surfing and wave size / location is never consistently predictable, every year right around Memorial Day ( plus or minus 10 days ) a south swell arrives to the islands due to changes in the weather patterns in the southern hemisphere. It arrived this past weekend and topped nearly 20 foot on Friday! That size is both massive and rare for the south ...

Don Banks of SI.com reports that, according to league and team sources, it’s unlikely that Haslam will lose ownership of the Browns due to the ongoing investigation: But in this case, even if it is a sobering federal case that included the FBI raiding the Knoxville-based corporate offices of the Haslam family truck-stop chain, the here-we-go-again lament might be a bit premature for the Browns and their long-suffering fan base. We’re always one news cycle away from the narrative changing in today’s NFL, but for now there’s no real sense the sky is falling in Cleveland and that Haslam’s legal troubles will seriously imperil his ownership and completely snuff out the optimism his presence brought to town, almost before it has a chance to truly take root. Banks also wrote “the idea of Haslam having to change his long-term status in team ownership in reaction to the fraud case seems unlikely. There’s a long way to go in the Haslam case, but for once, the Browns might just steer clear of the worst-case scenario ...

This is the sixth lawsuit against Pilot Flying J, who have now hired Louis Freeh to work on the lawsuit. You will remember Freeh from his work on the Jerry Sandusky child sex-abuse scandal and how Penn State University handled the entire situation. As expected, Penn State did not come out of it looking good and one wonders if the same fate awaits Haslam and Pilot Flying J. Of course, Haslam has denied any wrongdoing or knowledge about what was going on, but the bigger concern is that each added lawsuit means more money out of his and the company’s pocket. Some have wondered if this growing number of trials will be such a financial burden to Haslam that he might have to sell the Browns. For a man that rich, it simply doesn’t seem possible. However, for peace of mind and – yet another – there may come a time when he needs to. ...

Source: www.yardbarker.com --- Wednesday, May 15, 2013
The last thing the Cleveland Browns needed coming into the 2013 season was a distraction. The team can’t help being distracted as the lawsuits keep piling in against the team’s owner Jimmy Haslam III. Coming into his first season with his hand-picked staff in place, Haslam made promises to the city of Cleveland that some are wondering if he will keep. Haslam in involved in a legal struggle to keep himself out of prison. He is being accused of defrauding hundreds of trucking companies out of refunds they had coming for making fuel purchases with his Pilot Flying J truck stop company. Haslam has done a great job trying to make it look as though he knew little about the scam his sales team was running to fraud these trucking companies out of their rebates. The problem is, this has to be a huge distraction for the Cleveland Browns. Should Jimmy Haslam III step down and let someone else run the team? Be sure to vote in our poll to let us know how you feel about Haslam III running the Cle... ...

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- CBSSports.com reporter Mike Freeman writes how many team officials are saying they believe it may be extremely difficult for owner Jimmy Haslam to keep the Browns, because he may be ensnared by lawsuits and legal actions that could drain his finances and prevent him from keeping the club. Freeman writes: “This is more worrisome than people know,” said one team official who has familiarized himself with Haslam's situation. The FBI has been probing Haslam's truck-stop company, Pilot Flying J, and has alleged massive impropriety. NFL sources say they are concerned about the long-term viability of the Browns under Haslam's control and believe it may be only a matter of time before Haslam is forced to sell the Browns. The fear is that Haslam will have to deal with a bunch of lawsuits, writes Freeman. And the NFL is concerned what the FBI investigation will do to Haslam's cash flow. More Browns and NFL news Free-agent rookie Chris Faulk has something to prove (Cleveland.com).
