Kerry has already made three trips to the Middle East and still has nothing to show for it except a futile attempt to resuscitate a worn-out, decade-old proposal. Kerry's latest ploy was the so-called Arab Peace Initiative (API), which was first proposed by Saudi Arabia in 2002 and adopted by the Arab League. The API calls for Israel to withdraw completely to the 1967 armistice lines (including from East Jerusalem), repatriation of Palestinian refugees to their homes in Israel and Arab recognition of Israel. Now Kerry has persuaded a number of Arab nations to reaffirm their support for the API. Unfortunately, the API was a bad idea when it was proposed, and it's an even worse idea now. One problem is that since the 1967 war against five invading Arab armies, Israel has annexed all of Jerusalem and made the city its capital. MEMO | May 24, 2013 It has been announced that four Palestinian patients were poisoned by carbon monoxide gas sent to Gaza hospitals as nitrous gas. Palestinian Health Minister, Mofeed al-Mokhalalati, affirmed that four patients were poisoned by the carbon monoxide gas as they were injected with it in the belief that it was nitrous gas used in anesthesia. Al-Mokhalalati said that Israel is being blamed for the poisoning as it is the sole source of nitrous gas brought to Gaza hospitals. He said that he had commissioned a group of experts to form a fact finding committee into the poisoning and to understand how carbon monoxide containers managed reach Gaza’s hospitals. The Minister said that his ministry was obliged to postpone all surgical operations until further notice. “We have stopped all surgical operations until we are able to check all medical tools and equipment imported through Israel,” he said. Patients in Gaza wait for months to undergo surgical operations in Gaza hospitals which have suffered greatly as a consequence of the six-year siege imposed by Israel. ...

BBC World Survey Ranks Israel Near Bottom in Global Popularity

According to the BBC’s Annual Country Ratings World Survey, Israel is the fourth least popular country in the world. It ranks ahead of only Iran, North Korea and Pakistan. Germany ranks as the world’s most popular country with Canada in second. Upon closer scrutiny, many of the countries surveyed are in the Muslim world: Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan and Indonesia. Only 1% of Egyptians have a positive view of Israel. Other countries surveyed outside the Muslim world have had a long history of anti-Semitism: Russia, Germany, Poland, France and the United Kingdom. Indeed, 72% of UK respondents have a negative view of Israel which is the highest total in Europe. Sadly, Canada and Australia did not fare much better with mostly positive responses of 25% and 16%, respectively. Many countries with little contact with Israel viewed the Jewish State in negative terms. Only 3% of Japanese surveyed indicated they had a positive view of Israel. The United States was the only country where more than 50% of those surveyed had a positive view of Israel. Several sub-Saharan African countries had generally positive views of Israel - Ghana (44%), Kenya (42%) and Nigeria (35%). Perhaps Israel’s airlift of Ethiopian Jews during the famine in the mid-1980s could be responsible for this enduring goodwill or possibly its good relations with the newly independent Southern Sudan.
