A report from Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) estimates that S. 744 will result in a net deficit reduction of $175 billion from 2014-2023. Additional income and payroll taxes from an increase in the labor force will result in $459 billion in new revenue. Federal direct spending will increase by $262 billion and implementing the legislation will cost $22 billion, according to the report. Beyond the first decade, expect greater reduction. CBO and JCT estimate the bill would “decrease federal budget deficits by about $700 billion (or 0.2 percent of Gross Domestic Product) over the 2024–2033 period.” Any fear that the bill will cost trillions of dollars is nowhere to be found. By meeting the labor needs of our dynamic economy, comprehensive Immigration Reform will grow the economy and lower deficits. It’s another reason for Congress to pass this legislation. ...

Rubio waded into the Immigration issue embracing a false notion, that Mexican illegals would one day, in large enough numbers, vote for the GOP. Those crossing the border illegally are low/no skill laborers, many of whom are lured by the expansive welfare state, and once hooked on the free stuff, will continue to vote for those doing the promising. Many of these illegals have no intention of assimilating, and radical Leftist organizations like La Raza (The Race) will keep fanning the flames of victim hood, privilege and multiculturalism to ensure that many of these newcomers never embrace American culture. What will take place is the eventual unraveling of that society, as it becomes more balkanized and fractured. King can barely mask his contempt for Republicans who subscribe to this theory. “They believe that somehow if we grant amnesty that Hispanics are going to come vote for Republicans. I think that’s not going to happen whether or not we pass amnesty,” King said. “If [Hispanics] vote, they’re going to be voting in the patterns that they have shown up to this point. And it’s clear, 75 percent or more of them are for more government, which means more taxes, and more dependability. And that means more undocumented Democrats.” Rubio Stares Down the Right Over ‘Undocumented Democrats’ Marco Rubio was not amused. That’s why I said the day after the election it was time for Congress to do its work. “ I’m increasingly concerned that the White House and Senate Democrats …would rather have this as an issue in the 2014 election, rather than to resolve it. It was the president who said that he wanted a robust vote coming out of the Senate to help move this process along. And yet here’s the president and Senate Democrats working to limit the number of Republican votes that this Immigration bill is likely to get. I think that’s unfortunate. “On the House side, I’ve made clear to our members that we’re going to have a discussion about this on July 10th. We’re going to have a special conference and we’re going to lay all of this out and listen to what the members have to say. “I also suggested to our members today that any Immigration Reform bill that is going to go into law ought to have a majority of both parties’ support if we’re really serious about making that happen. And so I don’t see any way of bringing an Immigration bill to the floor that doesn’t have a majority support of Republicans. But I just think the White House and Senate Democrats ought to get very serious. “We know that border security is absolutely essentia ...

I’d written a few days ago about how GOP Senator Lindsey Graham , who previously had threatened to kill Immigration Reform if it helped the plight of binational gay couples, is now suddenly saying that it’s irresponsible to threaten to kill Immigration Reform because it will make the GOP lose the Latino vote forever. Here’s what Graham had to say: “If we don’t pass Immigration Reform, if we don’t get it off the table in a reasonable, practical way, it doesn’t matter who we run in 2016,” [Graham] said. “ We’re in a demographic death spiral as a party . The only way we can get back in the good graces of the Hispanic community, in my view is pass comprehensive Immigration Reform.” John Oliver had this to say about Lindsey Graham’s “demographic” concern for Latinos : “I say to you the Hispanic community, we choose to help you not because we want you, but because mathematically we feel we have to.” The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Get More: Daily Show Full Episodes , Indecision Political Humor , The Daily Show on Facebook The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Get More: Daily Show Full Episodes , Indecision Political Humor , The Daily Show on Facebook ...

Can the Tea Party stop immigration reform?

Source: tv.msnbc.com --- Wednesday, June 19, 2013
An All-Star team of Tea Party Republicans gathered outside the Capitol on Wednesday for a rally (okay, actually an “all-day press conference”) against the Immigration Reform bill en route to passage in the Senate. Among the cast of characters who spoke: Steve King of Iowa, who has called illegal Immigration a “slow motion terrorist attack” and comparing border crossers to cattle. Louie Gohmert of Texas, who recently claimed Islamic terrorists are training members to “act like Hispanic [sic]“ and cross the border. Robert Rector, the co-author of a widely criticized Heritage Institute study claiming Reform would cost trillions of dollars (the other co-author resigned his position after calling for restrictions on Hispanic Immigration based on their IQs). And, of course, Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, who said Rector’s study shows “amnesty costs a fortune.” “Amnesty also costs something more than just money: it can cost a nation,” she added, warning it would expand entitlement spending by “bringing in tens of millions of new people.” Her comments were a rebuttal to a report this week by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, which estimated the Senate’s bipartisan Reform bill would save $197 billion over the next decade and $700 billion in the decade after that , mostly through economic benefits associated with Bachmann’s dreaded population increase. There were no surprises among the speakers at Wednesday’s press conference, ...

Here Is the Simplest, Most Compelling Economic Case For Comprehensive Immigration Reform

Source: www.theatlantic.com --- Wednesday, June 19, 2013
<img src="http://cdn.theatlantic.com/static/mt/assets/business/assets_c/2013/06/Screen Shot 2013-06-19 at 5.56.41 PM-thumb-570x593-124881.png" & width="150" & height="156" style="margin: 5pt 10px 0px 0px; float: left;" border="1" align="left" alt="" />The Treasury Department has published a handy summary of the CBO's Immigration Reform analysis. If tables are too much for you, here's the one-sentence summary: Immigration is good for the economy. As somebody who's pointed out that the CBO cannot perfectly predict the future, let me say, once more: The CBO cannot perfectly predict the future. There is a difference between the best, most trusted, nonpartisan economic modeler we have and an oracle. And yet: The CBO is the best, most trusted, nonpartisan economic modeler we have. And we don't have an oracle. That's why this report really matters to the debate about how this law will affect the economy. From here on, if you want to make the case that comprehensive Immigration Reform is bad for the deficit, bad for GDP, or bad for employment, you have to make another very difficult case: That, for some reason, you know something about the future that the Congressional Budget Office doesn't. ...
