CBO: Immigration Reform Bill Would Lower Deficit

The comprehensive Immigration Reform bill under debate in the Senate will lower the federal budget deficit according to Congress’ chief budget analysts. A report from Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) estimates that S. 744 will result in a net deficit reduction of $175 billion from 2014-2023. Additional income and payroll taxes from an increase in the labor force will result in $459 billion in new revenue. Federal direct spending will increase by $262 billion and implementing the legislation will cost $22 billion, according to the report. Beyond the first decade, expect greater reduction. CBO and JCT estimate the bill would “decrease federal budget deficits by about $700 billion (or 0.2 percent of Gross Domestic Product) over the 2024–2033 period.” Any fear that the bill will cost trillions of dollars is nowhere to be found. By meeting the labor needs of our dynamic economy, comprehensive Immigration Reform will grow the economy and lower deficits. It’s another reason for Congress to pass this legislation. ...

Buyer’s remorse anyone? Rubio waded into the Immigration issue embracing a false notion, that Mexican illegals would one day, in large enough numbers, vote for the GOP. Those crossing the border illegally are low/no skill laborers, many of whom are lured by the expansive welfare state, and once hooked on the free stuff, will continue to vote for those doing the promising. Many of these illegals have no intention of assimilating, and radical Leftist organizations like La Raza (The Race) will keep fanning the flames of victim hood, privilege and multiculturalism to ensure that many of these newcomers never embrace American culture. I’d written a few days ago about how GOP Senator Lindsey Graham , who previously had threatened to kill Immigration Reform if it helped the plight of binational gay couples, is now suddenly saying that it’s irresponsible to threaten to kill Immigration Reform because it will make the GOP lose the Latino vote forever. Here’s what Graham had to say: “If we don’t pass Immigration Reform, if we don’t get it off the table in a reasonable, practical way, it doesn’t matter who we run in 2016,” [Graham] said. “ We’re in a demographic death spiral as a party . An All-Star team of Tea Party Republicans gathered outside the Capitol on Wednesday for a rally (okay, actually an “all-day press conference”) against the Immigration Reform bill en route to passage in the Senate. Among the cast of characters who spoke: Steve King of Iowa, who has called illegal Immigration a “slow motion terrorist attack” and comparing border crossers to cattle. Louie Gohmert of Texas, who recently claimed Islamic terrorists are training members to “act like Hispanic [sic]“ and cross the border. Robert Rector, the co-author of a widely criticized Heritage Institute study claiming Reform would cost trillions of dollars (the other co-author resigned his position after calling for restrictions on Hispanic Immigration based on their IQs).
