Also scoring points for the Huskies were the 3,200-meter relay team with a sixth-place finish, the 400-meter relay team that placed third and the 1,600-meter relay that placed sixth; both Trevor Wardell (third) and Tyrel Henderson (eighth) in the pole vault and Preston Wardell brought home a fourth in the discus and eighth in the shot put. The Huskies were third with 68 points. Cokeville won the boys team title with 149 points, ahead of Lingle’s second-place finish with 139 points. Sixteen teams competed in the 1A boys state meet. The Lady Huskies had a rough go but got strong finishes by Zariah Tolman in the pole vault (second) the 100- and 300-hurdles while Deja Garza took fifth in the long jump and eighth in the high jump, tying with teammate Carly Henderson. Mancuso broke his own state record (6-7) in the high jump when he cleared the bar at 6-8. In the 200 meters, the senior set a 1A record in the preliminaries with a time of 22.11, but topped that in the finals with a 1A State record first-place time of 21.81. “I’ve never run under .22 before,” said Mancuso Monday, on the eve of his graduation from Burlington High School.

Source: courantblogs.com --- Wednesday, May 22, 2013
NEW YORK – I caught up with Louisville coach Rick Pitino, soon to be a Hall of Famer, at the New York Athletic Club, where he and Geno Auriemma were getting their Winged Foot Awards, and got his thoughts on the new league, UConn, etc. His Cardinals will be defending their national championship in the AmeriCon next season, but only for one year. The school, which is ACC-bound, was not represented at the league meetings this week. How will Pitino approach coaching under such unusual circumstances? “It’s like my life,” he said. “I may have one year to live. I’m writing a book right now, it’s called ‘One Year Contract.’ That’s the way the last three years of my life have been, I’ve got a one year contract. I’m going to enjoy myself, I’m going to coach as if I have one day to live. … That being said, it’s a little awkward.” Pitino’s take on the AAC: “It’s going to be much better than people anticipate because there are four teams that are going to be in the top 20: Memphis, Connecticut, Louisville – three of the four for sure and Cincinnati in the Top 25 if not the Top 20. And that’s not including Temple, I don’t know how good they’re going to be. “… It could be a great league, like a very good Conference USA – back in the old days when Louisville, Cincinnati, Marquette and South Florida were in it. It was a very good league – there were eight tremendous teams in that league.” On Kevin Ollie: “I’m a tremendous fan of Kevin as a person ...

Although this is not the biggest news in college basketball over the offseason, it is still news and I am sure that Montana is excited about its new player. However, it is hard to tell how Breunig will do for the team, since he has barely seen any playing time in his two seasons with Washington. As a freshman, he averaged six minutes per game and this past season, he played even less, at 5.6 minutes per game. He will have to sit out a year, though. When he is able to take the court, hopefully Breunig will be able to make an impact for Montana. Breunig stands at 6’8”, which is always a pretty good size for college hoops. Considering the little time that he played for the Huskies, this does not seem like Breunig transferring is that big of a loss for the team. However, it probably never feels good for a player to leave a program under any circumstance. Hopefully, Breunig can make a much bigger impact playing for Montana, but it will be a long time before that can be seen. At the same time, that should not be a tough feat, since he did not even make one basket this past season and averaged 0.1 points per game. It is interesting to note that Breunig only played 175 minutes for Washington, which is pretty much barely any playing time. So, good for him for wanting to transfer to a different school, despite t ...

They go to Hermosa Beach, of course. Husky Haven of LA announced today that Huskies will be coming to the Fiesta Hermosa annual event in Hermosa Beach this Saturday May 25 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Huskies will be located in front of the Comedy Store. Beautiful, affectionate Huskies available for adoption will greet guests with plenty of cuddles and kisses. Potential pet owners can learn all about the dogs for adoption and apply to adopt them ahead of time by visiting http://www.huskyhavenofla.org/ . Rhonda Hallden, founder of Husky Haven of LA, a 501(c)(3) non profit charity, rescued these dogs from high kill animal shelters where, without her help, they would have been euthanized. “There are many beautiful pets for adoption available through rescues. There is often a misconception that pets that are in rescue or in shelters are ‘bad dogs’ but the fact is that the majority are there for no fault of their own,” said Hallden. Husky Haven of LA is dedicated to saving the lives of homeless, abandoned Siberian Huskies, providing food, shelter and veterinary care for them until they can find a loving home. Husky Haven is a volunteer organization and is in great need of volunteers and donations. Nikita (pictured) is a beautiful, 2 year old Siberian Husky who will be featured at the event. Nikita is a sweet, active Siberian who is great ...

Source: sportspressnw.com --- Tuesday, May 21, 2013
Here’s an idea that’s bound to elate all University of Washington basketball fans: The first Washington Men’s Basketball Alumni event is June 23 at Alaska Airlines Arena, and will feature a host of former UW (and current professional) stars, who will take part in a Legends Game, an Alumni Game, a Slam Dunk contest and a 3-point shootout. The 1 p.m. event is open to the public. “We have such a strong and connected network of former players here at Washington, and they love getting the chance to catch up with each other,” head coach Lorenzo Romar said in announcing the event’s creation. “This event is about providing an opportunity for them to do so, and for Washington basketball fans to get the chance to see some of their all-time favorites don the purple and gold once again.” UW officials Monday said that they have received attendance confirmations from former UW stars Nate Robinson, Terrence Ross, Jon Brockman, Quincy Pondexter, Brandon Roy, Isaiah Thomas, Tony Wroten, Spencer Hawes and Justin Holiday. Robinson, a member of the Chicago Bulls, is a three-time NBA slam dunk champion. Ross, of the Toronto Raptors, won this year’s contest. Roy made three NBA All-Star teams before knee problems derailed his career. The event will be presented and produced by 3 Point Productions, a Seattle-based live events and sports entertainment company that works with the University of Washington. “This is a one-of-a-kind event, and we’re thrilled ...
