By Marlys Good Staff reporter Burlington senior Ben Mancuso had a field day at the State Track Meet in Casper last weekend, winning four events — long- and high jumps, 100- and 200-meter dashes while setting two new records as he led the Huskies to a third-place finish. Also scoring points for the Huskies were the 3,200-meter relay team with a sixth-place finish, the 400-meter relay team that placed third and the 1,600-meter relay that placed sixth; both Trevor Wardell (third) and Tyrel Henderson (eighth) in the pole vault and Preston Wardell brought home a fourth in the discus and eighth in the shot put. The Huskies were third with 68 points. Cokeville won the boys team title with 149 points, ahead of Lingle’s second-place finish with 139 points. Sixteen teams competed in the 1A boys state meet. The Lady Huskies had a rough go but got strong finishes by Zariah Tolman in the pole vault (second) the 100- and 300-hurdles while Deja Garza took fifth in the long jump and eighth in the high jump, tying with teammate Carly Henderson. Mancuso broke his own state record (6-7) in the high jump when he cleared the bar at 6-8. In the 200 meters, the senior set a 1A record in the preliminaries with a time of 22.11, but topped that in the finals with a 1A State record first-place time of 21.81. “I’ve never run under .22 before,” said Mancuso Monday, on the eve of his graduation from Burlington High School. NEW YORK – I caught up with Louisville coach Rick Pitino, soon to be a Hall of Famer, at the New York Athletic Club, where he and Geno Auriemma were getting their Winged Foot Awards, and got his thoughts on the new league, UConn, etc. His Cardinals will be defending their national championship in the AmeriCon next season, but only for one year. The school, which is ACC-bound, was not represented at the league meetings this week. Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports Washington Huskies’ Martin Breunig will be transferring to Montana , according to NBCSports.com . Although this is not the biggest news in college basketball over the offseason, it is still news and I am sure that Montana is excited about its new player. However, it is hard to tell how Breunig will do for the team, since he has barely seen any playing time in his two seasons with Washington. As a freshman, he averaged six minutes per game and this past season, he played even less, at 5.6 minutes per game. He will have to sit out a year, though. When he is able to take the court, hopefully Breunig will be able to make an impact for Montana. Breunig stands at 6’8”, which is always a pretty good size for college hoops. Considering the little time that he played for the Huskies, this does not seem like Breunig transferring is that big of a loss for the team. However, it probably never feels good for a player to leave a program under any circumstance. Hopefully, Breunig can make a much bigger impact playing for Montana, but it will be a long time before that can be seen. At the same time, that should not be a tough feat, since he did not even make one basket this past season and averaged 0.1 points per game. It is interesting to note that Breunig only played 175 minutes for Washington, which is pretty much barely any playing time. Here’s an idea that’s bound to elate all University of Washington basketball fans: The first Washington Men’s Basketball Alumni event is June 23 at Alaska Airlines Arena, and will feature a host of former UW (and current professional) stars, who will take part in a Legends Game, an Alumni Game, a Slam Dunk contest and a 3-point shootout.
