Holy Motors. Un film di Leos Carax

Source: www.cultframe.com --- Friday, June 07, 2013

Source: trendcoffee.cc --- Friday, May 24, 2013

Leos Carax (2012, Not Rated, 115 minutes) The French film Holy Motors is an intriguing head-scratcher, which assembles two hours worth of scenes into what never really amounts to a story. In such cases I try to search the incongruous images for evidence of a prevailing theme, common bonds, or unifying elements. Maybe they’re there, but I didn’t find any. So while many of the individual scenes are interesting, funny, or exciting, the film as a whole left me unsatisfied. I don’t know what it’s about, so I’ll describe what I see. Denis Lavant stars as Mr. Oscar, who is driven around Paris by a chauffeur, Celine ( Edith Scob ). Over the course of one day, he will dress in costumes, wigs, and makeup to assume various identities that are assigned to him by an unknown controlling entity. He calls these “appointments.” But what is the purpose of these appointments, who is assigning them, and how did Mr. Oscar come into this line of work? We’re never told. None of the assignments has an apparent objective. I was somewhat reminded of the TV series Dollhouse , in which young men and women were imprinted with different identities to meet clearly specified needs, but who or what is being served by Mr. Oscar playing an elderly beggar, a disapproving father, a deranged man who kidnaps a model ( Eva Mendes ), or a murderous man with a vendetta against, it appears, another version of himself. Kylie Minogue plays a woman in the same line of w ...

Podcast: Episode 98 – Thomas Was Alone, Driver: San Francisco and Holy Motors

Source: www.thesixthaxis.com --- Monday, April 29, 2013
First up, the bad news: Kev wasn’t able to join us this week . Now, the good news: we’ve got a vintage three-man podcast that’s back on track after last week’s little insurrection. It’s just like the old days. We talked a bit about some of the news, including Microsoft’s invitations to their next gen Xbox reveal and the Battlefield 4 leaks. After that, we jumped right in with what we’ve been doing this week. I talked about Thomas Was Alone and I promise I’ll stop now. Kris has been playing Driver: San Francisco and inFamous 2 and Lewis watched a couple of films, including one called Holy Motors that sounds utterly bizarre. We did our usual quiz, this week a general knowledge one I nabbed off the internet, and they we plummeted the depths of our listener questions and I had a little mini rant again. Sorry about that. Please send us questions via email to podcasts[at]thesixthaxis.com . You can also tag your questions on Twitter with #tsacast and, provided you’re not on a private account, we’ll see them in our search each week. Finally, as usual, there’s a questions thread in the forum. This podcast features strong language, jokes in poor taste and adult themes, if you’re offended by that then we recommend that you don’t listen to it at all. As usual, you can grab the MP3 file here (right click to download). You might want to get it (when the RSS catches us) on the RSS feed, here . Or we’re on iTunes, when iTunes feels like updating ...
