Guam - Guam Governor Eddie Calvo has declared a "State of Mourning" for Guam following the deaths of two Guam Guardsmen who lost their lives in Afghanistan this past Thursday. Guam - Guam Guardsmen Specialist Dwayne W. Flores and Sgt. Eugene M. Aguon, were killed this past Thursday in Kabul, Afghanistan, when a suicide bomber rammed the convoy they were part of. In all, the explosion claimed 15 lives, 6 of them Americans, including Flores and Aguon. The other 4 Americans killed were civilian contractors. Guam Governor Eddie Calvo confirmed the deaths in a message to the media Saturday evening declaring a "State of Mourning" on Guam for the deaths of Flores and Aguon. In his statement the Governor said: “Christine and I, Ray and Notch ask for the prayers of every Guamanian for the families and friends of Sgt. Eugene M. Aguon, and Specialist Dwayne W. Flores. There are no words to describe the overwhelming grief of our island on this tragic day. May the Lord be with their parents and loved ones to give them strength,” Governor Calvo said. Aguon and Flores were part of the nearly 600 Guam guardsmen in the 1 st Battalion, 294 th Infantry Regiment. They left island on March 2 for a month of pre-deployment training at Camp Shelby in Mississippi. They arrived in Afghanistan in the first weeks of April. Guam - The Guam Environmental Protection Agency's weekly Beach Report lists advisories on 14 beaches. The same beach remains closed. Swimming, fishing or playing in unsafe waters may result in minor illnesses such as sore throats or diarrhea. It might also result in more serious illnesses such as meningitis, encephalitis, or severe gastroenteritis. Children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems have a greater chance of getting sick when they come in contact with contaminated water. The results of 44 samples taken by the Guam Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday May 16, identified that the following recreational waters as polluted above the accepted bacteriological standards. The Guam Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week - Crime Stoppers Coordinator Paul Tapao Friday, May 3, 2013, 5:28 a.m., Dededo Precinct Command officers responded to a "Robbery" complaint at Parks Market on Route 28 Y Sengsong Road, Dededo. The Police report revealed the following: As the employee's were preparing to open the store for business, two men whom were only described as possibly Chamorro, both clad in black long sleeve hoodies entered the store. One of the male suspect was armed with a black hand gun, with the other male who was not armed began to attacked the store's security guard and began wrestling outside. The armed male suspect then proceeded to the register and pointed the hand gun at the store's casher. The armed male then grabbed the entire cash register from its location and fled with the cash register into what witnesses described as a gray pickup. The unarmed suspect then separated from the security guard and jumped into the bed of the pickup, with both male suspects fleeing in an unknown direction. The Guam Police Department is asking the public to help solve this robbery. Guam - In a briefing to reporters at the Pentagon Thursday, Army Pacific Commander Lt. Gen. Wiercinski said there is "no time limit" on the deployment of the THAAD missile battery system to Guam. The THAAD system arrived at Guam's Andersen Air Force Base on Saturday April 13 from Ft. Bliss in Texas. It was deployed here in response to threats from North Korea to attack Guam.
