U. of Wisconsin-Green Bay Coach Keeps Job After Investigation of Alleged Abuse

The University of Wisconsin at Green Bay will retain its head men’s basketball coach, Brian Wardle, after an independent investigation into accusations that he mistreated at least one former player, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette. The inquiry began last month, after Green Bay’s chancellor received a complaint from the parents of one of Mr. Wardle’s former players, Ryan Bross. That complaint accused Mr. Wardle of forcing an ill Mr. Bross to continue running a workout drill until the player couldn’t control his bowels, and then ridiculing the player for defecating in his shorts. It also alleged that Mr. Wardle told the player he would improve if he had sex with a girl he was interested in dating. The ensuing investigation, conducted by a local lawyer, “concluded that a good deal of what was alleged did not occur as it was stated in the complaints I received in April,” said Thomas K. Harden, the Green Bay chancellor, in a written statement. In a report on his findings, the lawyer, Joseph M. Nicks, said the investigation had involved interviews with 25 witnesses. Mr. Harden’s statement said that Mr. Wardle would be allowed to continue as the coach of the Phoenix, though his contract would not be extended this year (his current one expires in 2017). The play of Green Bay Packers defensive lineman B.J. Raji has caused some level of frustration among Packers fans recently. Despite spurts of excellent play, especially rushing the passer, he has been somewhat inconsistent in providing run support over the past few years. He remains an intriguing player, however, possessing skills that few men his size have, and that begs the question: how will the Packers use him this season? Raji has experience playing all over the Packers' 3-4 defensive line, but he has most frequently been used at the 3-technique left end position and at nose tackle. In 2012, while playing primarily end, Raji played respectably in both run and pass defense, grading out slightly higher against the run according to Pro Football Focus (+5.9 against the run, +2.8 rushing the passer). However, he put up a very disappointing 2011 season while playing on the nose, and almost all of that was due to his run defense. For the 2011 season, he graded out at -21.2 in the running game versus a nearly neutral grade in pass rushing, and his performance eventually forced the Packers to move him to end and put Ryan Pickett back on the nose late in the season. Going back further to 2010, we see the difference continue, as Raji's +12.7 pass rush grade was tempered a bit by a -4.3 rushing defense grade. I thought it was time to slip a quick wide receiver post in the middle of all of my running back ranting . Very simply, if you are intrigued by Charles Johnson , Aaron Mellette is someone you need to be paying attention to. I think the love on this site for Charles Johnson is warranted. He’s a physical specimen who dominated his small-school college offense and was drafted late by a team known for having a savvy GM. The funny thing is, that’s exactly what Aaron Mellette is. And while Johnson has been creeping up rookie draft boards (he’s still a 5th round pick according to MFL rookie ADP but he just went at 31st overall in the @RotoPat dynasty league), Mellette is often going undrafted. Take a look at the similarities between these guys.
