No mês passado nós anunciamos o retorno dos canadenses Young Galaxy após o brilhante disco Shapaeshifting em 2011. O single que abriu as portas para a nova fase da banda foi " Pretty Boy " , produzida por Dan Lissvik e que traz a mesma proposta conferida em seus últimos trabalhos. Ajustada em uma melodia pop borbulhante que cativa qualquer ouvido, a canção não deixa a desejar e aguça a nossa curiosidade sobre o futuro. Dando continuidade na divulgação do disco Ultramarine , eles divulgaram a canção "Fall for You" que promete ser o próximo single/teaser do trabalho. Com uma sonoridade oposta à "Pretty Boy", a nova canção traz os vocais de Catherine McCandless em sua melhor performance. A produção traz uma sonoridade um pouco mais dançante, com direito a tamborins e um clima totalmente tropical. Em alguns momentos parece estar ouvindo uma ótima canção dancehall/reggae que contagia não só pela excentricidade da produção, como também pela composição apaixonada e revigorante. Ao que tudo indica, "Fall for You" será a primeira canção a ganhar um videoclipe para divulgar o novo álbum. Young Galaxy - Fall for You "Fall for You" será lançada oficialmente no dia 05 de março. Young Galaxy have been around for a while, but this is the first time I've heard of them. Their fourth album starts off with a great synth-pop song, and sustains it over the next couple of tracks. 2 out of 5 stars Welcoming the warm spring weather are the mellow synths and nostalgic lyrics of Young Galaxy’s Ultramarine . The band was formed in 2005 in Vancouver, Canada. It originated as a duo comprised of Stephen Ramsay and Catherine McCandless, but currently includes Mathew Shapiro on keys, Stephen Kamp on bass, and Andrea Silver on drums. Ultramarine is Young Galaxy’s fourth studio album, produced by Swedish musician Dan Lissvik. The resulting sound is diverse in musical influence, but fails to make a statement. The opening track, “Pretty Boy,” is light and dreamlike. McCandless sings defiantly, “We have no way/misfit and strayed/living beyond both means and pity.” The drums are a quiet tap beneath heavy piano chords that ring throughout the stereo field. While the music is catchy, it doesn’t have guts. Its energy is drawn from its use of delay and reverb, not from the music itself. The tracks that follow draw from a diverse musical background. “Fall for You,” for example, draws on afro-beat with its polyrythmic djembe drumming, while “Fever” pulls from ’80s pop bands like Talking Heads with McCandless singing in a low, David Byrne-like drawl. Yet the music lacks energy and drive. It’s music to be absorbed only passively. There are points in the album, namely track six, “What We Want,” that hold more energy.
