I Ain’t Gonna Work Down at the Quarry No More…Fred Flintstone

Source: mikeschultz.org --- Tuesday, June 04, 2013
There was a comment in the paper recently about someone who believes that the old cartoon show The Flintstones mocks the working class. For that reason, the person refused to let Fred and Barney be seen by their kids. The working class should not be heckled and mocked. I was nonplused by The Flintstones. It was clear that it was a take on Jackie Gleason’s The Honeymooners. Here’s Alice telling Jackie a few things on an episode: Click here to view the embedded video. But notice that Jackie, a bus driver (Ralph Kramden), is very much from the working class. The Honeymooners prompted not only the cartoon known as The Flintstones. It helped model The Family Guy. Now that you’ve seen Ralph – take a look at Fred and Peter: Here’s Fred: Click here to view the embedded video. Here’s Peter: Click here to view the embedded video. The major difference here is that Peter has testicles for a chin – I don’t think Jackie Gleason had that feature. Back to The Flintstones. Fred and Barney work at a quarry. It’s the age of the caveman…of course employment should be in moving rocks around – yabba dabba do. But quarries are serious business these days. Recently in Ontario, two quarries have been told they are not moving ahead. I understand that aggregate is important for roads. However, now another quarry is being proposed in the Wellington area just east of Rockwood. It’s being called Hidden Quarry. Not yet underway, the community is bracing for a ...

Meet Fred Flintstone! He’s a handsome, brindle Plott Hound mix! Three year old Fred is “a happy soul.” Don’t be fooled by his long face! His foster mom calls him “extremely affectionate and impossibly sweet” and says that he loves to lean his body into you and gets hilariously drowsy when you pet his hound head. “Fred makes a lot of eye contact from his droopy face, melting your resolve to correct him when he occasionally helps himself to the sofa. He is quiet and rather lazy, making him a great apartment dog despite his size.” Fred currently weighs about 55 lbs. but could stand to gain a few. If you are interested in adopting Fred Flintstone, please email adopt@badassbk.com ...

Today we've got reports from Scientific American , Green Car Reports , The New York Times , and Hemmings . The Physics of Fred Flintstone's Flaming Feet – Scientific American If you've never wondered how it's possible that Fred Flintstone could power a car solely with his feet you've never dropped acid and watched The Flintstones . The physics show poor Fred would probably lose his legs if tried it in the real world. The worst-case is much more likely. If Fred pressed and held his feet to the ground, he would most likely lose them. Sadly, we know this would happen because of the unfortunate cases where people’s feet are run over by cars (study link includes some graphic images). Will Future Tesla Electric Cars Use Metal-Air Batteries? – Green Car Reports John Voelkcer does the deep digging and finds a number of patents that show Tesla is interested in the range offered by the metal-air battery. Most advocates and industry analysts expect lithium-ion batteries to dominate electric-car energy storage for the rest of this decade. But is Silicon Valley startup carmaker Tesla Motors [NSDQ:TSLA] planning to add a new type of battery to increase the range of its electric cars?
