There was a comment in the paper recently about someone who believes that the old cartoon show The Flintstones mocks the working class. For that reason, the person refused to let Fred and Barney be seen by their kids. The working class should not be heckled and mocked. I was nonplused by The Flintstones. It was clear that it was a take on Jackie Gleason’s The Honeymooners. Here’s Alice telling Jackie a few things on an episode: Click here to view the embedded video. But notice that Jackie, a bus driver (Ralph Kramden), is very much from the working class. The Honeymooners prompted not only the cartoon known as The Flintstones. It helped model The Family Guy. The major difference here is that Peter has testicles for a chin – I don’t think Jackie Gleason had that feature. Back to The Flintstones. Fred and Barney work at a quarry. It’s the age of the caveman…of course employment should be in moving rocks around – yabba dabba do. But quarries are serious business these days. Recently in Ontario, two quarries have been told they are not moving ahead. I understand that aggregate is important for roads. Remember that Flintstones soundtrack CD collection that came out back in the '90s? It had most of the music featured on the show, including lots of the incidental ("background") music. The only thing that bugged me was that the incidentals weren't included as separate tracks, but were all tacked onto the ends of the other tracks. So...I separated them myself. I'm throwing the tracks onto my iPod, to pop up at random during shuffle play. You can do the same, if you like. I put all of the incidental music tracks into a convenient zip file, which also includes the audio from a commercial for Winston cigarettes, featuring Fred Flintstone. Now, if only someone would release an album of the incidentals from Gilligan's Island... THE FLINTSTONES - INCIDENTALS ...
