EDMWatch #3 No more page 3, sense on the nursery and transparency in English football

Source: www.libdemvoice.org --- Wednesday, June 19, 2013
We take a regular look at the Early Day Motions tabled by MPs. These are basically House of Commons petition and are used to raise awareness of an issue. One of the biggest elements of an MP’s postbag or inbox is a pile of requests from supporters of a particular organisation or charity to sign a particular EDM. As a rule, ministers don’t sign EDMs. At the time of writing, 108 new motions had appeared since EDMWatch #2 , bringing the total to 263. Most popular Greg Mulholland’s EDM 57 on a fair deal for your local pub has gone from number 2 to claim the top spot this week with 123 signatures. In second place comes EDM 36 , predominantly Labour but with a few Lib Dems like Andrew George and John Leech in there, on Legal Aid changes. EDM 153 is a mainly Labour motion calling for the planning regulations which allowed larger extensions to be dropped. Only 70 MPs and precious few Liberal Democrats have signed EDM 187 which suggests that the woman who was killed by the King’s horse in the name of votes for women, Emily Davison, be commemorated by a statue in Westminster. In fifth place EDM 80 rejects Government proposals to weaken the 2000 Freedom of Information Act. This one is co-sponsored by Julian Huppert. Liberal Democrat highlights Tim Farron’s EDM 157 is all about transparency in English Football: That this House is increasingly concerned about the lack of transparency in English Football, leading to disenfranchised communities ...

Two Lehigh players -- junior tight end Tyler Coyle and senior linebacker Nigel Muhammad -- have been identified by the College Folotball Performance Awards, according to a Lehigh Sports Information release. Coyle was one of five Patriot League tight ends named to the watch list, more than any other conference at that position. Last season, Coyle appeared in all 11 games, making four starts. He finished the year with 10 receptions for 77 yards and three TDs. Coyle caught three passes for 31 yards and his first career touchdown against Bucknell, and scored in each of the last two games for the Mountain Hawks, including an acrobatic 5-yard TD grab grab in the back of the end zone against Lafayette. Muhammad, a second-team all-Patriot League performer, started all 11 games at outside linebacker last season. He led the team with 10.5 tackles for loss, and was third on the team with 76 tackles, and 5.5 sacks. In a win over Princeton, Muhammad recorded 12 tackles, 4.5 TFL and two sacks. He made 11 tackles and forced a fumble in a win at Central Connecticut State. Sanogo is expected to formally complete his transfer to the Emirates in the next few days , having passed a medical in north London last month. But his road to stardom has not been easy, with the 20-year-old suffering a string of injury problems including a fractured tibia that ruled him out for nine months in 2010. Postie: Sanogo could have been dealing with letters for a living (Picture: Getty) And according to the French hitman, the injury problems have got so bad he nearly quit his playing career recently – in order to go and work in his mum’s post office. ‘I told my mum that because of my injuries I wanted to quit,’ said Sanogo. ‘I told her that I was ready to give up and go and work in the post office.’ Gunners fans will be glad he didn’t, and will hoping he finds the onion bag – not the mail bag – in the coming seasons.
