Ferrari's Enzo successor photographed undergoing test runs at Maranello A development version of the LaFerrari has been spotted undergoing testing near Ferrari's Maranello headquarters. The replacement for the Enzo supercar, which was revealed in full at the Geneva motor show, is claimed to embody Ferrari's technical knowledge, design capabilities and brand virtues. Originally codenamed F150, the new supercar uses a 6.3-litre V12 and a pair of electric motors to deliver a combined 950bhp and 715lb ft. With a dry weight of 1255kg, the LaFerrari is claimed to be capable of 0-62mph in less than three seconds; more impressively, 0-186mph is stated to take just 15.5sec. The LaFerrari's top speed is currently unknown, however, with Ferrari refusing to quote a figure because "it simply doesn't matter". The Ferrari LaFerrari (yes a truly horrible name) has not even been delivered to its first customer yet, and there is already talk of an extra special model. However, those rumors of a more extreme LaFerrari have been quashed by a Ferrari spokesperson, but that doesn’t mean the end of it. We say this because the Ferrari LaFerrari has alredy proven to be a successful hypercar because all 499 units have been sold, and so would make sense for a more aggressive version. It’s still possible to see a Ferrari LaFerrari track-only track only version much like the Ferrari FXX, which was based on the Enzo, albeit a more extreme and aggressive version. We can understand why Ferrari would want to distance themselves from talk of a faster and lighter LaFerrari at this moment in time, but never say never, not when we have seen them do similar things in the past. The reason why all this has come about was because Flavio Manzoni, the LaFerrari designer said that he was unable to make use of something very special, and so has been kept back for a special edition Ferrari LaFerrai in the future. The name is a fitting one because the new model, powered by a gas-electric hybrid drivetrain, makes 963 horsepower combined. Prancing Horse The prancing horse brand debuted its newest model at the 2013 Geneva International Motor Show, gull-wing racing performance coupe that can go from 0 to 60 mph in under 3 seconds. Just 499 models will be built and parent FIAT claims that every model is already spoken for. Many of the models are destined for China where demand for Ferrari and other top-end models has been surging in recent years. LaFerrari registers the fastest lap times on Ferrari's own lap near its Maranello, Italy headquarters. Automotive News reports a 1 minute, 20 second lap time there, a full five seconds faster than the Enzo and still three seconds faster than the F12 Berlinetta. Potent Powertrain Under the hood is a 6.26-liter V-12 engine that makes 800 horsepower. A 120-kilowatt electric motor adds in 163 horsepower to deliver the combined 963 horsepower and makes 664 foot-pounds of torque. Like other Ferrari's this model is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. However, Ferrari officials have denied those rumors and reported that we are not going to get something more extreme than the LaFerrari. According to the Italian company , the man who sparked the rumors, LaFerrari’s chief designer Flavio Manzoni, got the wrong idea. In a recent interview with AutoCar , he reported that there are lots of design elements Ferrari didn’t used in the LaFerrari, but they will be included in future Ferrari models, including in a more extreme version of the model. However, it looks like such a car is "easily done, but it’s not the case." Meaning that Ferrari has no plans for a model placed above the LaFerrari and such a model is or never was under discussion. Its relentless pursuit of building some of the world’s most extreme supercars knows no bounds. And after Autocar reported that there are plans to build an extreme version of its newest hypercar, the LaFerrari , it all seemed par for the course for the Italian automaker. With the LaFerrari limited to just 499 units, Ferrari wants to build an even more exclusive version of the 963-horsepower hypercar. That’s what Flavio Manzoni, the LaFerrari’s chief designer, told Autocar . Could this possibly be the LaFerrari EVOXX that we spoke of back in March? “When we were producing the original design proposals for LaFerrari,” said Manzoni, “there was one proposal that I thought was especially beautiful. So we decided to keep that one back for something truly special in the future.” That "something truly special" appears to be this mystery hypercar that could pack well north of 1,000 horsepower. Talk about its exclusivity should be one of the most important details of this vehicle; Manzoni estimates that no more than 10 could be built with an estimated price tag of anywhere between £3 million ($4.67 million) and £5 million ($7.78 million).
