The Pasadena Police Department is requesting assistance with locating Manuel Rojas, male Hispanic 73 years of age. Rojas walked away from his care facility Friday night at about 10:00 p.m. Rojas suffers from dementia but is able to communicate. He is 5′-7″, 190 lbs., with gray hair. An accident in Fair Lawn, New Jersey near the intersection of 5th Street and Morlot Avenue left a 74-year-old woman with a fractured leg. The pedestrian accident occurred at about 9 p.m. and involved a 54-year-old resident of Fair Lawn who was driving an unspecified vehicle east on Merlot. According to an officer, the collision threw the woman about 10 feet, yet she remained conscious prior to being taken to the hospital. The woman was crossing Merlot from the corner of 5th Street. Police reported that the car driver attempted to evade the crash by swerving on the roadway. However, a number of factors may have decreased the available reaction time. Police cited the woman's dark clothing and a burned-out street lamp on the corner. Officers have filed paperwork needed to ensure the street light is repaired. The sound of the pedestrian knockdown brought a local resident out of her home. This woman reported the driver's shock and remarked on the danger of the dark corner. The driver has not been charged by police, but they did not state the status of the investigation nor report a finding of fault. There was no word on the potential for civil charges. Pedestrian accidents frequently have the possibility of injuries. In this case, the pedestrian had a confirmed fracture in one leg and a possible fracture in the other.
