The tombstone for former Mayor Ed Koch, who died in February after meticulously planning the details of his burial for years, was mistakenly engraved with the wrong birth date, NBC 4 New York has found. The marker, which stands more than 5 feet tall and 6 feet wide, lists Koch's birth date as Dec. 12, 1942, instead of 1924. Ed Koch served in World War II, but his tombstone says he wasn't born until 1942 , when the conflict was underway. He was actually born in 1924. It's especially ironic because Koch planned his memorial so carefully, buying his Trinity Church plot in 2008, and pre-ordering his tombstone. But the inscription of Koch's birth and death dates came just this month, a typo by a stone cutter.
