WICKED SHOES: Shoe Designer Kobi Levi Creates High Heels Inspired by Disney Villains

Shoe designer Kobi Levi, who counts Lady Gaga and Whoopi Goldberg as fans, has taken inspiration from his favourite Disney Villains for his latest ‘Witch-Craft’ collection of freaky footwear. The Little Mermaid ’s Ursula, Snow White ’s Evil Queen, and Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty all feature in the collection, which the designer likes to call ‘wearable sculptures’, quite! Speaking about his designs Israeli Levi said: “Walt Disney characters represent the ultimate fantasy world. I loved them as a child and still do today. Their naivety captures and makes me feel like I’m in a magical world. The Villains are special because they are iconic and interesting. They are most memorable for me. “My choice to work with Ursula, Maleficent and the Evil Queen was an easy one. I always loved them. Although they are all stereotypes, each one has her uniqueness and a distinct character and temperament. Maleficent is elegant, respectable, impressive and wise. Ursula is funny, amusing and cunning. The Evil Queen is cold, distant, majestic and beautiful.” Each pair of shoes in his has a villain’s face hand-painted on the insole. The Evil Queen is represented by a pair of heel-less peep toes with crown ankles; Maleficent’s shoes are shiny black pointy-toes complete with her headpiece and cape; and Ursula’s sling-backs feature her octopus dress and body. ...

Somewhere before the time of Disney and maybe even before The Brothers Grim, someone decided that a fairytale's villan just can't be beautiful. The bad guys are supposed to be beasts, underwater predators, green skinned, and maybe even the vision of your crazy, three-times-removed, possibly-too-young-to-be-your-grandmother grandmother (we're looking at you, Cruella de Vil). Disney has driven that concept into our brains since Snow White, but before you even begin to lose sleep wondering what some of Disney's most iconic villans would look like if they had the princess' conventional (though slightly boring) good looks, the internet has already answered it for you. Some anonymous artist has given some serious makeovers to almost every villan, from Ursula, to Hades, to Captain Hook, and the Queen of Hearts.
