If there is anyone on the roster who can take over that role, it is tight end Dennis Pitta . Boldin’s role in the Ravens’ playoff run was one that can’t be duplicated by many: fighting with defensive backs in tight coverage along with being someone with enough speed to get by linebackers. It’ll be a tall task for Pitta to duplicate, but he has the skill set to produce at the position. Pitta was top-10 among tight ends in receptions with 61 last season, as well as touchdown passes with seven. He has very deceptive speed to play in the slot and the toughness to deal with linebackers, as displayed by the hard hit he received in the conference championship game in January. Such as move would be critical to the Ravens’ passing game. Wide receiver Torrey Smith would benefit greatly from it, and it would further enhance his game as Pitta and Smith can become the great compliment Boldin provided for Smith the last two years. Pitta signed his restricted free agent tender for $2.023 million this season with a contract extension in the works.
