The Jets took Milliner ninth overall, but incumbent starters Antonio Cromartie and Kyle Wilson are returning on a pass defense that probably was not as good as its number two ranking but surely was not a weakness in 2012. Milliner certainly will be a starter in the long-term, but I do not understand why it is necessary to push him into the lineup on day one just because he was taken in the top ten. The transition from college to the NFL is a big one. There are so many lifestyle changes for rookies. They have to adapt to living on their own. They need to get acclimated to a new city. They are getting used to having football as a full-time job. They have to digest a bigger and more complicated playbook than they have ever seen. The competition is bigger, faster, stronger, and better. There are not many bigger transitions. Even good prospects can struggle out of the gate after such a head-spinning turn of events. If you can ask a rookie to take on a reduced role and face slightly less talented competition out of the gate to ease the transition, it might not be the worst thing in the world. Do not be mistaken. There is a difference between being the number two and number three cornerback. The number two guy is going to see more snaps and face more difficult competition. The number three guy is still going to see significant playi ...

A much-publicized quarterback battle likely between Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith dominates headlines. Other areas have yet to be decided in terms of starter. New York made a blockbuster move by trading Pro Bowl cornerback Darrelle Revis to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. By coincidence, the Jets landed Dee... Per Mullen’s report, the former Alabama corner has already signed with Pat Dye & Bill Johnson — and this has happened after waiting the necessary five-business-day waiting period expired. Dye & Johnson’s agency merged a few years back with Jimmy Sexton’s larger group. Under that larger banner some other Jets of note represented are Rex Ryan and Calvin Pace. When Milliner made the switch, he has become the second Jets rookie to fire his representation, after West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith parted ways with Select Sports in late April. Brian Bassett, theJetsBlog.com I hazarded a guess that Jay-Z might be sniffing around another New York athlete, but that seems to not be the case. Good to know that at least this is behind him. It’s extremely rare that two players drafted by the Jets would both leave their agency after disappointing draft results, but there’s a first time for everything. It seemed an odd move to fire an agency over four draft spots, but we don’t know the full story there. A number of Jets players are already signed and now that this is settled we’ll expect that they will all get into camp on time and signed with their ...
