Source: www.alipac.us --- Sunday, May 19, 2013
The Debt ceiling Is Back Submitted by Tyler Durden on 05/17/2013 17:28 -0400 While many may not recall that the US has been without an official Debt ceiling for the past three months, or even that it has a Debt target ceiling, the bonus period agreed upon in January to let the nation rake up some $400 billion in addition Debt in the past few months, officially runs out tomorrow, May 19, when the Debt limit will be restored to its previous level plus the Debt that was incurred in the interim, which means around $16.735 trillion in total Debt as of yesterday , plus the amount incurred today, excluding the Debt not subject to the cap which is about $30 billion. And since no grand bargain is forthcoming in a world in which official governance is now almost universally in the hands of the world's central bankers and out of the hands of the theatrical career politicians, it means that the next deadline in the endless US Debt ceiling saga will be the day when the extraordinary measures to extend the Debt ceiling run out. Such a deadline will likely be hit in just over three months. As the WSJ reports: Mr. Lew said the Treasury would be able to use the same extraordinary measures that the department deployed during the last Debt-ceiling standoff at the start of the year. Those include halting investments in government worker retiree funds and drawing down some accounts. “Treasury is not able to provide a specific estimate of how long the ...

Source: www.pa2a.org --- Sunday, May 19, 2013
<img src="http://blog.heritage.org/wp-content/uploads/BL-debt-ceiling-2013-v3.jpg" & width="150" & height="180" style="margin: 5pt 10px 0px 0px; float: left;" border="1" align="left" alt="" />Quote: On May 19, the United States hit its Debt ceiling after adding $300 billion in more Debt since lawmakers suspended the ceiling in February. But the cash won’t run dry until at least Labor Day, according to Treasury Secretary Jack Lew, whose department can employ a variety of cash management tools to continue spending beyond the official Debt deadline. Congress last hit the Debt ceiling in January. The President and Congress then decided to “suspend” the Debt limit through May 18. This is the first time that lawmakers adopted a Debt ceiling date instead of a dollar amount. The Congressional Budget Office explains: On May 19, the Debt limit will be raised to its previous value—$16.394 trillion—plus the amount of borrowing that occurred while the limit was suspended (that is, from early February to May 18). In other words, the President and Congress decided in February that they would continue borrowing through May 18, with the new Debt limit becoming the then-current limit of $16.394 trillion plus whatever was added on since then. Washington racked up $300 billion in more Debt in less than four months, making the current limit $16.7 trillion. This is the pattern of recurrent budget negotiation crises: Spend; Spend some more; Run up against the Debt ceiling; Resort to “extraordinary measures” to ward off a possible default for a while; and finally, Settle for inadequate measures that fail to curb soaring Debt in the future. Bred by Brandywine Farm, Debt ceiling is out of the Stakes-winning mare Top Marks , who has also produced Stakes-placed Dean's List , by Holy Bull. The colt's second dam is Stakes winner Top Princess . Debt ceiling's victory only adds to what has already been a fantastic year for Discreet Cat, as the sire has also been represented by G2 winner and G1-placed Discreet Dancer . He is the sire of seven Stakes winners to date, and a total of 15 Stakes horses. Discreet Cat is currently standing at Darley USA for $12,500 stands and nurses. ...
