Carvalho confirmed the news today via his personal Twitter account , saying: "I have been cut by the UFC. Too many FW's on roster &amp; need to cut back. Business is that way. Only love for the UFC. Hopefully be back. Thx!" After a rocky start in his promotional debut against Felipe Arantes at UFC 142, Carvalho rebounded in back-to-back wins with a KO of Daniel Pineda at UFC 149 and a decision over Rodrigo Damm at UFC 154 . 'Pato' would then meet &lt;b&gt;Darren&lt;/b&gt; &lt;b&gt;Elkins&lt;/b&gt; at UFC 158 , where what started as a competitive striking match would leave Carvalho the victim of what many thought a questionable stoppage by Yves Lavigne. During a first-round flurry, &lt;b&gt;Elkins&lt;/b&gt; was able to wobble Carvalho with a blow behind the ear, forcing him to drop to one knee. It was at that moment that Lavigne visibly decided to intervene, although Carvalho had bounded up to continue the fight. Officially a TKO stoppage at 3:06 of the first round, Carvalho dropped to 2-2 in the UFC while &lt;b&gt;Elkins&lt;/b&gt; pushed his win streak to five fights, improving to 5-1 inside the Octagon. Although only 2-2 in the promotion, not many pundits saw this move coming . In what many believe was a controversial, poor decision to stop the fight by Lavigne, fans were largely silent when it came to criticizing Carvalho.
