I’ve been curious to try out Conclave ever since I got wind of it . Last night, that is exactly what I did. You can see the results below: I didn’t get too far, as you can see, but Conclave seems to have some real promise–especially if you’re playing it with friends. (That said, I’d really like it if I could just create and control a full party of Conclave characters myself.) The only real gripe I have about Conclave so far is the interface. It’s not bad on the whole, but I am allergic to confirming every single action I take. The combat in Conclave is slow enough as it is; making me click to advance after every. Single. Thing. Is. Just. Not. Necessary. IMO, Conclave’s pacing would improve considerably if enemy info just popped up automatically on mousing over the enemy, with one-click movement and one-click targeting of attacks. Development on this seems to be ongoing, so I’m looking forward to seeing how it expands and improves with time. We were fortunate to secure supporting funding from the Fishmongers' Company which allowed us to subsidise attendance at our biennial event in support of Trout in the Town project leaders. Brilliantly hosted by Salford Friendly Anglers ; the theme for this year's Urban River Champions' Conclave was "Resilience". It is a characteristic that urban rivers can show in spades. It is also something that every volunteer - and especially every person who takes on the responsibility to run an urban project - needs to have buckets of. However, everyone involved in these labours of love will experience real low points. It can get to feel like a hopeless cause in the face of external opposition as well as internal group tensions. This was the reason that I asked Philip Sheridan to give the keynote address at this year's Conclave - for reasons that will become clear when you watch his presentation. Phil not only kindly agreed to speak, but also allowed us to reproduce his talk in the video below. I think that I am right in saying that, after a fairly standard opening paragraph or two for an urban trout stream restoration presentation, the audience was completely unprepared for the directions that Phil subsequently took. Down to the final few NYS Section conclaves left to post and my checklist of issues from 1973-2012 will be complete. Of course than the 2013 issues will need to be cataloged. The 1973 Section NE-3A Conclave does not indicate a host lodge or location. Can anyone fill in that information? I am only aware of two issues for the event, a pocket patch. Our 14th venue visit on 2013′s Conclave Theatre Tour will be to: BARDAVON 1869 OPERA HOUSE 35 Market Street, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. OPENED: February 1, 1869 ARCHITECT: James Post STYLE: Adamesque CAPACITY: 944 WEBSITE: bardavon.org The Bardavon Opera House began its life as the Collingwood Opera House with a capacity of 2,000 seats. James Collingwood was a prosperous Poughkeepsie coal and lumber merchant who built the theatre behind his Market Street office building. The Poughkeepsie Daily Eagle reported that “…the great Hall seems to be just right, and for its appearance, comfort and general adoption to the wants of the community it was warmly commended by everybody in the large audience present last night.” The theatre closed on April 15, 1921. The Sunday Courier reported that it “had become obsolete as a playhouse and so the Bardavon Theater Corporation, which purchased it a year or so ago, is to use the brick walls of the old building as the nucleus of a palace of amusement that will meet the needs of the present generation.” The new theatre was designed in the style of Thomas Lamb. The name was changed to Bardavon in 1923. The Bardavon prospered until 1943 when the corporation sold the theatre to Netco, a subsidiary of Paramount Pictures.
