Kansas Tornado Relief, a nonprofit organization comprised of several Wichita churches, is aiding in the recovery of Moore, Okla., which was devastated by an EF-5 tornado Monday. A group of volunteers from the organization, led by Terry Johnson, executive pastor at GracePoint Church, drove to Moore on Wednesday. They brought with them a 26-foot truck containing an estimated $15,000 in supplies and $5,000 in monetary donations to Moore – all donated by Wichitans. Members of a Helotes Church are doing their part to help their fellow congregation in Oklahoma following a devastating tornado. Life Point Church held a collection drive Thursday on behalf of tornado victims in Shawnee, Okla. "They had a tornado there before the one that hit Moore, so it hasn't had a lot of publicity," said lead pastor Danny Rivers. Rivers said the effort began with Church members Kevin and Cat Hyland, who initially were going to take a U-Haul with donations. But Rivers said generous donations are filling an 18-wheeler in the parking lot of the 4-H Ag Center, where the congregation meets. The pastor said the truck will be leaving Friday for Shawnee, where the items will be delivered to the Life Point ministry there. Rivers said they will remain on-site across from O'Connor High School on Leslie Road off Bandera Road until 7 p.m. or later, if necessary. "We had a meeting with the Ecumenical Patriarch. We considered various issues and accord emerged on everything. I am grateful to His Holiness for this support. He said repeatedly that Constantinople recognized the jurisdiction of the Georgian Orthodox Church in Abkhazia and, with God's help, everything will end peacefully," the Georgian Patriarch said. Patriarch Ilia II said that it was planned to organize his visit to Abkhazia in the company of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. Today the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland accepted the controversial Church and Society Council report on Israel/Palestine titled " The Inheritance of Abraham? A Report on the ‘Promised Land ,'" which has been widely and angrily condemned by Jewish groups and the Israeli government as anti-Semitic and anti-Israel. There was a lively debate about the theology and politics in the document, as well as about the friction the report caused between the Church of Scotland and the Jewish community. It became apparent that an overwhelming majority of the delegates favored the report when a counter-motion, which recommended rewriting the document for next year's assembly, was almost unanimously defeated in a stand-up vote. A Church press release says: The Church of Scotland’s General Assembly today, May 23, debated a revised version of its report, 'The Inheritance of Abraham?' Presenting the report Rev Sally Foster-Fulton, Convener of the Church and Society Council said: “This is primarily a report highlighting the continued occupation by the state of Israel and the injustices faced by the Palestinian people as a consequence.
