Chubby Checker, dubbed "King of the Twist" due to his hit song "The Twist" and assorted twist-related singles, went to Holland in 1971 and got psychedelic . He released a limited Europe-only album called Chequered! that included soul/psych track Goodbye Victoria ("Goodbye, Victoria. Everybody's going to the moon..."). The possibly drug-related departure may have been an attempt to reach stardom sans the novelty of "The Twist." Hi All. Here's a "you couldn't make it up" news story that you might have missed... Chubby Checker , known to his dear mom as Ernest Evans, is of course the King of the Twist. What's less well known is that it's also the name for a smartphone app that can check the size of a man's you-know-what under the brand name The Chubby Checker. Okay, so the advertising for this todger assessment utility is coy but also unambiguous - " Ladies, have you just started seeing someone new, and wondered what size their member is ? Now, with the Chubby Checker there is no need for disappointment or suprise !" However, it seems to have been both a disappointment and a surprise for the apps seller (Hewlett Packard no less !!) to discover that Chubby Checker is still alive & kicking at 71. He's apparently so upset that he's instructed his lawyers to sue HP for £323m for "irreparable damage to his reputation" (although I'd have thought that his psychedelic rock album or his disco single would have already done that). If it gets to court, I've no idea how long the case will be. But there's probably an app for that too ! :smile: DD ...

Joe Ely fans who missed his acoustic set last month at Tricky Falls take note — the Lubbock legend will perform with his full band July 19 at the Spencer Theater in Alto, near Ruidoso. Ely's 8 p.m. show is part of the elegant 500-seat theater's summer performing arts series, which also includes sets by Neal McCoy, Chubby Checker, the Lettermen and Felix Cavaliere's Rascals , plus performances by the Missoula Children's Theatre and the Golden Dragon Acrobats .
