[Image via SCPR] A stone chimney and charred rubble are about all that're left of the Big Bear-area cabin where ex-LAPD officer Christopher Dorner committed suicide in February (as the house burned around him), following a shooting spree and manhunt that lasted more than a week. But still it's become something of a pilgrimage site, where tourists stop by to pay respects to Dorner's victims or to Dorner, who some believe was unfairly terminated from the LAPD. The house was one of the vacation rentals at the 7 Oaks Mountain Cabins in Angelus Oaks; one nearby business owner says "That first weekend it happened, there were at least a good 100 people, maybe even 200" coming through to visit, according to KPCC . Visitors have tied ribbons and homemade crosses to the fence surrounding the site. Meanwhile, the entire 7 Oaks site is for sale. The cabins have been on the market for about two years and are not currently open. Oddly, the land actually belongs to the US Forest Service ("The arrangement dates back to the 1920s when the federal government tried to lure more tourists to the San Bernardino National Forest. Special use permits were handed out to people who wanted to build and rent out cabins.") (CNN) -- The couple who called police after being held hostage in Big Bear, California, by rogue ex-Los Angeles police officer Christopher Dorner will get a majority of the $1 million reward for information that led authorities to him. Karen Reynolds and her husband, Jim, called 911 on February 12 to report that Dorner had tied them up and stolen their car. They will receive 80% of the reward, put up by the city of Los Angeles with help from other jurisdictions, groups, and private donors. A panel of three judges awarded 15% to the Daniel McGowan, who discovered Dorner's burning truck near the ski resort town, and 5% to R. Lee McDaniel, who spotted Dorner on February 7 and informed police. The panel said nine other people who filed claims were not entitled to any reward money. The manhunt for Dorner ended when Dorner was cornered and died in the San Bernardino Mountains, about 100 miles east of the city where he once had been a police officer. The 33-year-old former Navy officer holed up in a cabin after a shootout with law enforcement. Dorner was a former LAPD officer and a U.S. Navy reservist who targeted police officers and their families. He killed four people, including two law enforcement officers, and wounded three others in a nearly one-week manhunt. From the 12 claims filed, a panel of three judges selected three claimants to receive the reward. On Tuesday, authorities announced that 80 percent of the reward is going to James and Karen Reynolds who Dorner tied up at their Big Bear cabin before escaping in their SUV. Karen Reynolds managed to break loose of her bindings and call 911. Dorner later crashed the SUV and carjacked a white pickup. Daniel McGowan, who found the truck in the Big Bear area, will receive 15 percent. The remaining 5 percent will go to tow-truck driver R.L. The Los Angeles Police Department posted a document on its website in which a panel of three judges detailed the payouts for the much-sought reward. They decided about $800,000 will go to James and Karen Reynolds. Daniel McGowan, who found Dorner's burning truck in the Big Bear area where he eventually was discovered, will get $150,000, and $50,000 will go to tow truck driver R.L. McDaniel, who reported spotting Dorner at a gas station earlier in the manhunt. The $1 million reward was announced by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa during Dorner's rampage in February. Dorner had vowed warfare on LAPD officers and their families for what he called an unfair firing. He killed four people, including two law enforcement officers, during his nearly one-week run from authorities that ended with his death on Feb. 12.
