The best teams are using it. The Broncos , Patriots , Packers and Saints among others run this concept every week and have great success doing so. Peyton Manning and Tom Brady have led the way in the no-huddle offense. As veteran quarterbacks, they know their offense like the back of their hand. They can communicate using hand signals and key phrases that quickly organise the entire offense and tell each player where to line up and what their assignment is. With the ability to get everyone lined up quickly without having to huddle, Brady and Manning not only stop the defense from substituting, but they get more time to survey the field and read what the defense is giving them. A common misconception is that the no-huddle and the hurry-up are the same thing. But in reality they aren't. Quite often Brady and Manning will run the no-huddle, but will wait until the last second of the play clock to snap the ball. This gives them the most time possible to analyse the defense. Brady will move around guys like Aaron Hernandez , Rob Gronkowski and Stevan Ridley to create match-ups that he likes. Here against the Broncos, the Patriots line up with a run heavy formation. Tight ends Gronkowski and Daniel Fells (replacing the injured Hernandez in this game) line up on the right side of the offensive line. The two receivers, Wes Welker and Brandon Lloyd. Ridley is in the backfield an ...

Washington Redskins: Analyzing RBs Chris Thompson and Jawan Jamison for 2013

Source: bleacherreport.com --- Thursday, May 16, 2013
Alfred Morris ran for 1,1613 yards last year, but Roy Helu and Evan Royster were less of a factor in the Washington Redskins ' success on the ground. To remedy the lack of a true change-of-pace back, Mike Shanahan took Chris Thompson and Jawan Jamison in the 2013 draft. But can they make an impact in any way comparable to Morris' 2012 success? Just from looking at Thompson and Jamison's college records, the signs aren't too promising. In fact, there's a case to be made that both backs could have been acquired as undrafted free agents. Thompson has already suffered two torn vertebrae and a torn ACL , leading to justifiable doubts about his durability at the next level. Jamison, meanwhile, is perhaps undersized for a back who carried the ball over 230 times in both his years at Rutgers. He also battled an ankle injury for much of the 2012 season. However, if there's one coach who knows which running backs will fit his system, it's the one in charge at Redskins Park. Shanahan proved his nous when he brought Morris to Washington and, once again, he was rewarded. What's interesting about both Thompson and Jamison is that they've succeeded when the offense has functioned in a similar way to the one they'll be a part of in the NFL . Jamison is more of a between-the-tackles sort of back and Rutgers would regularly utilize him on zone-stretch plays. Although he doesn't have the strength of Morris to gain big yards after contact, he would ...

BY ZAC BOYER The Redskins have signed running back Chris Thompson , whom they took out of Florida State with the 154th pick, the 21st of the fifth round, in the NFL draft last month. The 5-foot-7, 192-pound Thompson may be an asset for the Redskins as a change-of-pace back in their pistol-based option offense. He ran for 1,735 yards and 14 touchdowns in 38 games with the Seminoles, though he broke two vertebrae during his junior season and tore the ACL in his left knee during his senior season. Thompson said at the Redskins’ rookie minicamp earlier this month that he has been told he will be able to play when training camp opens in late July. “It’s meant a lot that the organization believed in me being injured when they could have easily picked me up as a free agent,” Thompson said. “For me, that just pushes me even more, and to get back on the field healthy and doing the best that I can.” Thompson became the third drafted rookie to sign a contract after safety Bacarri Rambo and outside linebacker Brandon Jenkins did so on Monday . ...

It’s really hard to quantify how much of an impact Alfred Morris had on the Redskins in his rookie season. His 1,613 yards and 13 touchdowns propelled this team to having a top 5 offense. While Robert Griffin III is an elite talent, without Alfred Morris’ hard nosed, physical style of running, the offense likely doesn’t work quite the same way; Morris allowed us to keep a balanced attack. With RG3′s accurate passing and his Morris’ threat as a runner, play action passes out of the pistol and the zone-read were a problem defensive coordinators could never figure out. But, as awesome as Alfred Morris is — and let’s be clear here, Alfred Morris is awesome — his contributions in the passing game were lacking. Usually utilized as a last resort after Robert had gone through all his progressions, Alfred Morris only totaled 11 receptions for 77 yards out of the back field, while back-up running back Evan Royster had 15 receptions for 109 yards and fullback Darrel Young had 8 catches for 109. All told are running backs had a combined 34 receptions for 295 yards. Click above to read more. ...
