The annual airing of A Charlie Brown Christmas has become as much a part of Christmas as Santa and Rudolph. Charlie Brown's Christmas tree, Snoopy's decorated doghouse and Linus' classic recitation on the true meaning the season have become true baby-boomer Christmas icons. Throw in Vince Guaraldi's classic soundtrack, and you have an animated special that has defined a generation. A Charlie Brown Christmas was not the first time the Peanuts characters were animated. In the early 1960's they appeared in a series of commercials for the Ford Motor Company. A Charlie Brown Chirstmas was conceived, written, animated and produced in only six months, and was finished only a week before the air date. The first airing, on December 9, 1965, was sponsored by Coke. A CBS executive who watched a preview was disappointed and declared the program, "A little flat....a little slow", and said he thought Peanuts was better suited for the comics page. Ed Levitt, an animator who worked on the show was more percipient, however, declaring "A Charlie Brown Christmas will run for a hundred years"! The children who sing the opening and closing songs, "Christmas Time is Here", and "Hark The Herald Angels Sing", were chosen from a children's choir at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in San Rafael, California. This year's Capital FM Summertime Ball looks set to be the best yet, doesn't it? Literally all of our fave popsters (except One Direction, who've shunned us for Mexico that day) are taking to the stage at London's Wembley Stadium on 9th June - from Taylor Swift and The Wanted to Union J and The Saturdays. And guess what? It sounds like there could be a VERY special guest at the gig. Ooh. As we all know, Justin Timberlake's gonna be singing some songs and hosting the whole thing - and if fellow performer Charlie Brown's to be believed we could be expecting a performance from Jay-Z. Now straddling geezerdom and the wisdom that comes with old age, I want to share some of the useful tidbits and tips that have helped my photography business over the past twenty plus years. Apply the golden rule to employees but never loose sight of what they owe you as well. You should expect honesty as well as a fair day’s work for wages paid. In return, you owe them loyalty and flexibility to help them through the ebb and flow of their careers and family life. Cutting them slack when the need it, giving them paid time off for family emergencies will repay you many times over what it costs in the short run. Apply the golden rule to clients . The same goes for clients but never forget someone who doesn’t pay their bills is not a client; they’re a deadbeat. From time to time, all clients have cash flow problems and as long as they keep you in the loop and send partial payments, you should try to work with them. When their current crisis passes, they’ll remember those who helped. Otherwise I think bad clients, like bad employees, should be fired. Technology is your friend, embrace it . When you hear of any technology or anything new that could increase your operation’s productivity, decrease overhead, or allow you to expand into new markets, put it in place and start making and saving money right away ...
