If you want to have your own copy to drool/cry/obsess over but were not able to buy it this is your chance. Benedict talks about Star Trek Into Darkness and Sherlock and his mother is angry with him because he has not yet found a “bird”. I volunteer… The Rules: I will give away two copies of the magazine and the front page of the Times on Saturday. The two winners will be chosen randomly and I will send them an ask, which means that your askbox should be open. If you do not answer for three days, I will choose another winner. You can reblog as often as you like but I think that tumblr only counts you once. No likes, please. The deadline to reblog is the 26th May . I ship everywhere, even to Narnia. Which also means, that you have to give me your address. Of course, I would be happy to get new followers but if you only want the magazine and don’t like my blog that’s okay as well. Good luck! ...

How to Be a Woman – Caitlin Moran

Source: salient.org.nz --- Sunday, May 19, 2013
A book for any gender and any stage of adult life (read: men, this is for you too), How to Be a Woman is a modern feminist track-cum-memoir. Caitlin Moran, an award-winning columnist for The Times , is a skilful narrator who tackles with abundant humour the most perplexing question to plague the modern woman: how to be one. Or, more precisely, how, in this world of loose morals and tight undies, can we navigate through life under the glass ceiling and come out the other side laughing? With the first 11 chapters boasting exclamation marks in their titles, including “I Don’t Know What to Call My Breasts!” and “I Go Lap-Dancing!”, readers are well warned about Moran’s characteristic exuberance. It charts the rise of Moran’s sexuality, from the first whiff of puberty to procreating. In the mix of these life events are musings and conversational yarns about the state of womanhood these days and in those days (the late 80s and early 90s get plenty of exercise). The wry humour and wit that accompany the first chapters set Moran up to deal with some of womankind’s more pressing social and moral issues towards the end. Her ruminations, rants, and moments of despair range from obvious questions surrounding feminism, to the more inconspicuous topics. She deals with Brazilians, strip clubs, tiny underwear, being fat, and being bitchy; as well as subtle sexism, the pros and cons for childbearing and rearing, and what is happening to our role model ...

Source: www.skrishnasbooks.com --- Sunday, May 12, 2013
Title: How to Be a Woman Author: Caitlin Moran ISBN: 9780062124296 Pages: 320 Release Date: July 17. 2012 Publisher: Harper Perennial Genre: Non-Fiction, Memoir, Essays Source: Personal Copy Rating: 3.5 out of 5 Summary: In her memoir/essay collection, Caitlin Moran muses about the difficulties of growing up from a teenager into an adult and faces puzzles about being a woman. Review: Caitlin Moran’s linked essay collection focuses on one important topic: How to Be a Woman . Though these are different essays about varied subjects that woman must face today, Moran frames the collection through her own experiences. Memories and stories from her difficult adolescence and young adulthood are what she uses to contemplate topics as varied as sexual harassment, body hair, and feminism. If you’re easily offended, you’ll want to stay away from How to Be a Woman . Moran is crass, direct, and not afraid to broach serious, sensitive topics such as abortion. Her sense of humor isn’t for everyone, and she delves into some strange topics in this collection that not every woman will be able to relate to. Still, if you appreciate frank, honest discussions, then this is a book you should definitely consider. Whether you agree with Moran or not, her musings will definitely get the gears cranking in your brain. How to Be a Woman is meant to be funny, and it often is. However, I didn’t find this book as laugh-out-loud hilarious as I’d hoped. Moran is c ...
