An NFL coach blames you, the fan, for a gay player not being accepted in the NFL — not other players. “I don’t think the locker room would have any problem with it,” Arizona CARDINALS head coach Bruce Arians told Foxsports.com in this story. “The problem would be the fans. I think especially opposing fans. “Some of the things that are said are over the top and out of control that I can imagine what some fans would say to an openly gay player.” Last week, the NFLPA announced that a group of its members were putting their names and jersey numbers on t-shirts supporting LGBT Pride Month , the proceeds of which would benefit Athlete Ally. Former Texans Eric Winston and Connor Barwin were among them. Shortly after their initial release, Texans running back Arian Foster added his name to the list . Foster’s name and jersey number now appear on this shirt for men and this one for women . Athlete Ally is a non-profit organization that fights homophobia in sports. ...

Source: bleacherreport.com --- Wednesday, June 19, 2013
Pitino and Pitbull , together at last. You’re seeing that image correctly, that is the Rick Pitino embracing hip-hop artist Pitbull with a look on his face like he has just won the lottery, which was spotted by Nick Coffey of TheCardinalConnect . Now you have questions. How did this happen? Who brought these people together? Why is Pitino hanging out with the dude from the Bud Light commercials? So many questions abound as to how the head coach of the Louisville CARDINALS came to meet with Pitbull . It’s an unlikely mix, but there’s an explanation for all this. According to Coffey, Pitino was out in Los Angeles visiting with his son Tuesday when the two decided to drop in at a Pitbull concert at Hollywood Bowl. Why Pitbull ? Because Pitino loves Pitbull , of course. The coach announced at a 2012 CARDINALS tipoff luncheon that he gets pumped up listening to Pitbull during his nine-minute commute to work every morning. “He used to be [Mr.] 305,” Pitino said . “Now he’s worldwide.” Real words, out of the real Rick Pitino’s mouth. Pitino salsas in his seat to songs like "Shake" before preparing his team for NCAA championship glory. It seems unlikely, but the announcement goes a heck of a long way to explaining how he ended up backstage in the artist’s dressing room after the concert. ( Ke $ha also headlined the event, but Pitino wasn ’t spotted mingling with her. He’s probably glitter-averse.) This kind of thing is becoming less ...

Since coming to Arizona, who would be the most infamous, the most disliked members of the CARDINALS ? Some examples could be Buddy Ryan, Leonard Davis , Derek Anderson, Aaron Francisco . Could Bill Bidwill be part of it? As a sort of community activity, let's decide who would be the symbols of dislike for CARDINALS fans. I've given a few suggestions, but what I would really want is for you to give names as nominations in the comments below. We will take those nominations and then make them part of a poll. We will eliminate names until we have our top four. So, now you tell us all -- who are your most disliked CARDINALS players, coaches or front office members? Nate Schierholtz hit a solo homer for the Cubs. But, strangely enough, that's not how things actually happened. On what must have been "Backwards Day" in St. Louis, the men homering in the first inning were Ryan Sweeney (a two-run shot) and Cody Ransom (a solo homer, the third time the Cubs have homered back-to-back this year), and it was Jeff Samardzija throwing dominant baseball into the ninth inning. The Cubs defeated the CARDINALS 4-2 in one of their best-played games of the 2013 season. The win and the Brewers ' 10-1 loss to the Astros (!) moved the Cubs out of last place in the N.L. Central. Samardzija was great -- he didn't really run out of gas in the ninth inning, one of the two hits he allowed was a floater that just barely wasn't caught by Starlin Castro (and Castro made a great effort to even get to the ball), and thou ...

The CARDINALS were already down 1-0 when Ryan Sweeny hit a two-run shot to right to put Chicago on top 3 to 0. The next batter, Cody Ranson, followed that with a solo homer to left field. The back to back homers but the Cards behind 4 to 0 before they sent their first batter to the plate. The CARDINALS finally got on board in the 6th inning when Carlos Beltran hit his 17th homer of the season. The solo to right field cut the Cubs lead to 4 to 1. In the 9th inning, the CARDINALS were still down 4 to 2 when David Freese grounded one to second base. Shane Robinson tried to break up the double play with a hard slice, but got out of the baseline and the umpire called him out for interference. The CARDINALS lose the game 4 to 2. Yadier Molina went 3 for 3 on the night, boosting his major league-leading batting average to .367. The Cards and Cubs will face off again Wednesday night. LOUIS (AP) — Jeff Samardzija hopes his traditional June swoon is a thing of the past. Samardzija picked up first career win as a starter in his most unlucky month, tossing 8 1-3 strong innings to help the Chicago Cubs to a 4-2 win over the St. Louis CARDINALS on Tuesday night. Samardzija (4-7) came into the contest winless in eight June starts — he was 2-8 with a 7.14 ERA, with both victories coming in relief. “I really want to knock this June bugaboo,” he said. “I’ve been working really hard and I like where I am today.” Samardzija gave up two runs on seven hits and left with a 4-1 lead. He struck out six and walked one for his first win since May 27. Ryan Sweeney and Cody Ransom hit back-to-back homers in a four-run first as Chicago broke a five-game losing streak in St. Louis. The Cubs started fast against Adam Wainwright (10-4) and won for the fourth time in six games. Carlos Beltran hit his team-high 17th homer for the CARDINALS, who lost for the third time in five games but still lead the majors with a 45-26 record. Cubs manager Dale Sveum was especially impressed with his starter. “He was as good as he’s been all year against the best offense in baseball,” he said. “If you can do that to them, you’ve had one heck of a game.” Said Sweeney: “Watching from center field, he was unbelievable.” “He was keeping hitters off balance and still throwing 96 to 97 (mph) in the ninth inning,” he said.
2013 NFL Fantasy Football: Look for Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald to rebound

Source: www.yardbarker.com --- Wednesday, June 19, 2013
Arizona CARDINALS WR Larry Fitzgerald struggled through his worst statistical season as a receiver in 2012. There is no doubt as to the root of the problem. Arizona’s offensive line was horrible and the trio of quarterbacks the team trotted out were equally as bad. The CARDINALS made coaching and personnel changes in the offseason which should lead to improved success for Fitzgerald in 2013. Fitzgerald was once widely considered the best pass catcher in the NFL but he has been eclipsed by Calvin Johnson in Detroit. Johnson has been catching passes from Matthew Stafford over the past few seasons, after Stafford has found a way to finally remain healthy. In 2013, Fitzgerald will be catching passes from QB Carson Palmer. Palmer is not the player he once was, but he still posses a big arm and will fit well under first-year head coach Bruce Arians’ offensive scheme. Arians appeared Tuesday on the NFL Network and said he plans to move Fitzgerald all over the field, utilizing him not just... ...

He won two NCAA Most Valuable Player awards as a member of the CARDINALS in the 1970s. Nicknamed “The Fortune Cookie,” he went on to become one of the deadliest players in Philippine basketball history. Co was named by the PBA as one of its 25 Greatest Players during its silver anniversary in 2000. The 1979 PBA MVP said he plans to instill discipline among this year’s CARDINALS, who are considered the NCAA’s mystery team after not participating in summer leagues. Co defended his decision since he only took over as coach in February, with summer tournaments slated in March. “One month and a half is not enough to mold a team,” he said. “Pag may bisita kang dumating sa bahay mo, pinagluto mo at ‘di pa luto yung putahe, eh half-cooked. Eh dapat hindi natin isinisilbi yun.” Co noted that the morale of the CARDINALS, who falter last season to finish sixth in the basketball tournament, was at a low when he took over. The coach said he’s working on getting his players’ confidence back. Mapua captain Carlos Isit said the team is happy with Co’s new system. Season 89 of the NCAA opens on Saturday.
Assembling Jonathan Papelbon Trade Packages from the Red Sox, Tigers, Cardinals

Source: bleacherreport.com --- Tuesday, June 18, 2013
Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe reported in a recent column that the Philadelphia Phillies believed that the Boston Red Sox , Detroit Tigers and St. Louis CARDINALS all had interest in their closer, Jonathan Papelbon . Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. has also recently stated his lack of interest in trading any of his most valuable assets and an unwillingness to break up the core of his team and start over. In the case of Papelbon, he mentioned that his team doesn't have a replacement ready to step in for one of the best closer's in the game. And there is no one "on the market", according to Amaro —I'm assuming he's referring to external options in the upcoming offseason. Amaro's job, however, is to make sure that his team is competitive year in and year out. In order to do so, he must weigh his options and not mortgage the future to try and win now when his roster is not good enough to do so. While trading Papelbon doesn't fit Amaro's philosophy not to "do five-year plans" —which actually makes sense now if he thinks he'll be out of a job if the 2013 or 2014 team isn't competitive— the organization may need to decide as a whole on the club's direction. If that direction is to get younger and improve the farm system, trading their 32 year-old closer might be a start. Here's what it might take for the three aforementioned teams to acquire Papelbon. Begin Slideshow ...
