Brian Brown , president of NOM, the National Organization For Marriage , today issued a strong and definitive statement condemning the anti-Gay hate crime murder of Mark Carson , a Gay man shot to death Friday in New York City. Brown, whose organization exists to oppose and prevent same-sex marriage in the U.S. and now around the world and was extremely active in France this year, had also condemned anti-Gay violence in France, five hours after lawmakers voted to allow same-sex marriage . “We condemn in the strongest possible way the murder of a Gay man in New York by a killer who apparently hurled anti-Gay insults at him moments before the killing,” Brown’s statement, posted to NOM’s blog almost four full days after the shooting-death murder, reads: This senseless act cannot be condoned in America or anywhere, and we urge that the perpetrator be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Our heart goes out to the family of the victim, and we hold them in our prayers. While this killing appears to have no connection to the current debate about redefining marriage, there is no room for violence toward any American — whether they support traditional marriage or not. No person should be subjected to violence because they are Gay or lesbian or because they believe that marriage is the union of one man and one woman. There is no place for violence, period. Brian Brown spoke with the Associated Press about the fact that Gay marriage will be a political issue in the next elections in states where legislators -- especially Republican legislators -- voted to redefine marriage: "...opponents of Gay marriage say Delaware lawmakers will face consequences for supporting the measure, which cleared the Senate on a 12-9 vote and was signed into law by Democratic Gov. Jack Markell barely half an hour later. “I think there will be some people that will be replaced,” said Brian Brown, president of the National Organization for Marriage, a conservative group opposed to same-sex marriage.
