Source: news.fredericksburg.com --- Monday, May 13, 2013
The two players, chosen last month in the fifth and sixth rounds of the NFL draft, respectively, are the first of seven draftees the Redskins have signed to a contract. BY ZAC BOYER The Redskins announced they have signed linebacker Brandon Jenkins and safety Bacarri Rambo – the first two players they drafted last month to sign a contract. Jenkins, a 6-foot-5, 251-pound defensive end at Florida State, was the second of two players taken in the fifth round by the Redskins. He’ll convert to outside linebacker in Washington’s 3-4 scheme. The 6-foot, 215-pound Rambo was taken in the sixth round by the Redskins and has a chance to start either free safety or strong safety. Rambo played both positions at Georgia and spent time at both during the team’s rookie minicamp the first weekend of May. The 162nd overall pick, Jenkins will count for roughly $450,000 against the salary cap and will earn a signing bonus of approximately $169,000, per the rookie wage scale. Rambo, the 191st pick, will have a salary cap hit of around $430,500 and a $102,000 signing bonus. Jason Thompson , an undrafted receiver out of New Haven, was also released by the Redskins in a concurrent move. ...

A jury saw through prosecutor David Hyde’s bullshit, and set Jenkins free (after convicting him of a misdemeanor Reckless Conduct count, added as a lesser charge) after a six-day trial that riveted the area. We’re proud of Jenkins, his family and friends, who stood by him and whose support never wavered. However, we’d like to point something out. All the testimony that we heard on the last day of the defense’s case—about the dangerous conduct of the violent Earp gang, the many people they beat, the vehicles and/or houses they trashed of the people they didn’t like or had a bend against, the threats they made toward Olney law enforcement—was, despite the good it did Brandon to show the jury what he was up against, all for naught for the taxpayers of Richland County. NONE of those incidents cited that day of testimony —the brutalization of Angelina Totten, the battery of Nathan Steber, the damage to their vehicles and house, just as examples—have ever been charged against any of the surviving Earps or Casey King. In fact, we’ve learne ...

Last year, the Redskins were awarded a 6th round draft pick in a 2011 trade for QB Donovan McNabb. The end result? The Redskins were able to draft a RB named Alfred Morris that happened to run for over 1,600 yards and scored 13 TDs. This year the Redskins hope to repeat the process with a 5th round pick they received for Albert Haynesworth. The thirty-six million dollar cap penalty really starts with Haynesworth as Mike Shanahan and Bruce Allen tried to lessen the cap damage caused by his contract by paying it off in the uncapped 2010 season. Add capgate to the fact that Haynesworth wasn’t worth one penny of the contract he signed, so it’s nice that the Redskins were able to make a trade to the Patriots ( where Haynesworth also did nothing ) and get something for him. Today is the day that we finally see some value from Albert Haynesworth. The Redskins used the pick from the Patriots to draft Brandon Jenkins from Florida St. Jenkins played DE during his days at Florida St. but will be converted to a 3-4 OLB in the Redskins scheme much like Brian Orakpo, Ryan Kerrigan and Rob Jackson. Jenkins had phenomenal years at Florida St as a sophomore and a junior. During those two years he racked up 104 tackles and 21.5 sacks with 33 of those 104 tackles for loss. His conversion to a 3-4 OLB shouldn’t be too difficult as he played coverage in certain zone bli ...

Source: bleacherreport.com --- Saturday, April 27, 2013
The Washington Redskins used one of their fifth-round picks in the 2013 NFL draft on former Florida State DE/OLB Brandon Jenkins , a great pass-rushing prospect. Jenkins was selected with the 162nd overall pick, and may make more of a dent on defense for the Redskins than many people expect. Last year, when star pass-rusher Brian Orakpo went down with injury, the Redskins got some production out of backup Rob Jackson , but Orakpo was definitely missed. While Jenkins surely isn ’t at the same level ‘ Rak is, he is still an intriguing guy. When looking at the tape, there is a lot to like about Jenkins. He has a great motor and is quick off the snap. He also has ideal size for a 3-4 outside linebacker, which is likely what he will play in Washington. His first really impressive year in college came in 2010 when he tallied 13.5 sacks as well as 21.5 tackles for loss. Because of his breakout season, Jenkins became a main focus of offensive coordinators, causing his numbers to decrease. Even so, he had eight sacks and helped his teammate Bjoern Werner put up some big numbers by drawing double-teams more often. Before missing the majority of the 2012 season with injury, he was largely considered to be a first- or second-round pick. Now that he is healthy, he could really be a steal for the Redskins. While his value is mainly as a pass-rusher, he is also a great run defender. He has tremendous upper-body strength, which allows him ...
