In this new behind the scenes video, Blizzard’s production director John Hight, lead designer Joshua Mosqueira and senior designer Jason Bender explain the process of bringing Diablo III to Sony’s PS3 and next-generation PlayStation 4. Blizzard is designing an all-new user interface, including an intuitive control scheme and a new dynamic camera perspective, that will make questing and combat in the world of Sanctuary feel like second nature on PlayStation platforms. Players will be able to battle their way through the story in single-player mode and also experience the hack-and-slash joy of destroying demons and collecting loot together with their friends via seamless four-player online and local co-op modes. “Diablo III looks and plays great on the PlayStation,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We put a lot of care and thought into the PlayStation version to make sure it would deliver an authentic Diablogaming experience, and we’re really pleased with the results.” Diablo III is expected to release for the PS3 later this year. ...

If you're looking to go pro in game design, Blizzard COO Paul Sams has teamed up with the University of Texas at Austin to create the Denius-Sams Gaming Academy . The academy will be led and taught by gaming industry executives and the curriculum will be guided by industry veteran Warren Spector. The 12-month, post-baccalaureate program will guide students through creating a game from start to finish, giving them the experience they need to join the gaming industry when they graduate. "The University of Texas at Austin has a tremendous track record of building nationally recognized programs that generate the leaders and critical thinkers the gaming industry needs," Sams said. "The program will focus on building the skills required for students to lead teams and develop games from concept to completion, while growing talent for the gaming industry." The program starts in 2014, but with only 20 spots available, you probably have a better chance of getting into a competitive raid guild. ETFO should butt out of Catholic school gay-straight alliance stance by Christina Blizzard Why is the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) meddling in the affairs of Catholic schools? They don’t represent Catholic teachers. That union is the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) — so what gives with ETFO president Sam Hammond putting out a news release Thursday slamming two Toronto Catholic school trustees’ move to have Gay-Straight Alliances banned from Catholic schools? “This motion goes farther than banning GSAs. It would shut down all student discussion on issues of sexual orientation or gender identity in school-based clubs,” Hammond said in a release. “How does that make a young student who is lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) feel welcome or safe in a school environment? How does that educate students to be respectful of differences?” he asked. Trustee Garry Tanuan has brought “The Anti-Bullying Clubs Policy Change” motion to the Toronto District Catholic School Board. Seconded by Trustee John Del Grande, the motion supports the anti-bullying program recommended by the Archdiocese of Toronto, which opposes bullying of any type — not just that directed at gays and lesbians.
