The main catch is that it is US only with OS 10.1+ for now though hopefully that will change. Also the app is a ported Android app though it does work decently enough. It has all of the CNN news content so its worth checking out. Features of the CNN app include: Get breaking news and follow stories as they develop. Watch video clips and coverage of live events as they unfold. Go beyond the surface with international, politics, opinion, tech and entertainment stories and more. Contribute your story or opinion to CNN iReport by uploading photos and video directly from your app. Follow other iReporters and see stories from their point of view.

Source: lawyerist.com --- Wednesday, June 19, 2013
Blackberry Z10 Review I recently got the chance to try the Blackberry Z10 , the new “flagship” phone from the former king of the smartphone. It is, unfortunately, underwhelming. While the hardware is beautiful, the software and ecosystem are pretty weak. Overall, the Z10 feels several years out of date and unlikely to catch up any time soon. If you have never used an iPhone or an Android phone, you might be reasonably impressed by what the Z10 has to offer. It is, as I said, a beautiful piece of iPhone-esque hardware. The browser is solid, the user interface isn’t awful, and there are some nice apps available to cover your basic communication and social media needs. Unfortunately, the only way you could be impressed by the Blackberry Z10 is if you actually had not ever used an iPhone or an Android phone. Before I talk about why the Z10 falls down, let me give you a little background on my smartphone biases. Three of my first four smartphones were BlackBerrys. I had a monochrome 5000 or 6000, then a color 7000-series. Both were at least a year old when I got them, but I was just thrilled to have a smartphone. After a brief stint with a hand-me-down Palm Treo, I bought a Blackberry Pearl 8100 , new, from T-Mobile, although it had already been out for a year. Then I bought my Nexus One. Android was a revelation. Where my BlackBerrys were slow and clunky with an ancient-feeling UI and no touchscreen, the Nexus One was fast, touchable ...

A flaw in the Blackberry Z10 smartphone, which could potentially allow hackers to gain root-level access to the device has been played down by a security expert who deems it too fiddly to exploit. Blackberry alerted Z10 users several days ago to the security flaw on its Knowledge Base blog , and explained that Q10 users and people running the latest version of the software should not be affected. The vulnerability could potentially allow hackers to gain access to resources that are usually reserved for senior management, or to permit applications to carry out unauthorised actions. However, the blog post said the steps needed to exploit the vulnerability require a high degree of user interaction and physical access to the device. “Successful exploitation requires not only that a customer enable Blackberry Protect, use the feature to reset the device password, and download a specifically crafted malicious app, but an attacker [would also need to] gain physical access to the device,” the blog post explained. “If all of the requirements are met for exploitation, an attacker could potentially access or modify data on the device,” it added. Blackberry Protect is an optional feature in BB10 that allows Q10 and Z10 users to remotely track, lock, wipe and display a message on the device by ...

Aside from delivering an entirely new form factor for the Canadian smartphone manufacturer, the handset also debuts the Blackberry 10 operating system to the world. While there are well over 120,000 apps for the new Blackberry 10 operating system, there are many which you can consider “native applications” that were designed to specifically enhanc and take advantage of the software system running the handset. Available in the Blackberry App World is the official Amazon Kindle application for the Blackberry 10 operating system. But an even better eReader is called simply enough Book Reader, and it perfectly fits the operating system and the 4.2 inch screen on the Blackberry Z10. Functionality is extreme, and includes support for EPUB, MOBI, FB2, TXT and CHM formatted books. And though the Blackberry Twitter application was built to work across every Blackberry model, it is not the best experience for that platform. Also available in the world Blackberry App World is “Neatly”, a Twitter app designed specifically for the Blackberry Z10 smartphone. The user interface may make the Z10 your favorite Twitter experience, with stylish themes, threaded replies and a much richer experience than the current Blackberry Twitter application. And TuneIn Radio is an absolute must-have for Blackberry Z10 smartphone owners. Rat ...

Source: ourberries.com --- Tuesday, June 18, 2013
<img src="http://ourberries.sg/uploads/images/2013/06/16/MI3LE.png" & width="150" & height="49" style="margin: 5pt 10px 0px 0px; float: left;" border="1" align="left" alt="" />BlackBerry’s security incident response team has issued two advisories warning Blackberry Z10 and PlayBook tablet users to update to the latest version of the operating system and software on both platforms. These patches address a remote code-execution vulnerability in the Adobe Flash Player integrated into the Blackberry products, as well as a privilege escalation flaw in the Blackberry OS. You are strongly advised to update these devices to Blackberry 10 OS version 10.0.10.648 or later and version 2.1.0.1526 of the PlayBook software. So if you have not updated, perhaps its time to do so! The privilege escalation bug affects only Z10 smartphones but is currently not being exploited. Blackberry said the severity is limited by the amount of user interaction and physical access on the attacker’s part required to successfully exploit the vulnerability. Successful exploitation requires not only that a customer enable Blackberry Protect, use the feature to reset the device password and download a specifically crafted malicious app, but also that an attacker gain physical access to the phone Blackberry said in its advisory. If all of the specific requirements are met for exploitation, an attacker could potentially access or modify data on the device. The vulnerability could enable a malicious application downloaded by the user to compromise weak permissions on a Blackberry Protect object to compromise the device. By doing so, the ...

I tried again and again it down loads the upgrade and it says install failed. So I delete the app and try downloading it from scratch, once again it down loads the app and says install failed. Now I do not even have the app on the phone to use any more because it fails to install. Blackberry needs to get its act together because I am starting to think that I made a huge mistake choosing Blackberry for the first time for our phones.
