CrackBerry Asks: Have you experienced random reboots on your BlackBerry Z10?

Source: crackberry.com --- Sunday, May 19, 2013
<img src="http://cdn.crackberry.com/sites/crackberry.com/files/styles/w795/public/article_images/2013/05/crackberry-reboot.jpg?itok=iITcZuqY" & width="150" & height="100" style="margin: 5pt 10px 0px 0px; float: left;" border="1" align="left" alt="" />So here's the deal. Since the Z10 has been released, I have used several different Z10 units (probably 7 or 8... I lost count) across four different carriers, and I have never once experienced a random reboot on my Z10 . The same goes for all of the members of the CrackBerry editorial team - there have been very few mentions of the phone randomly rebooting for no reason. However, if you jump into CrackBerry's crazy busy BlackBerry Z10 forums , you will find a LOT of discussion around owners experiencing their Z10 randomly restarting, either during the day, or during the night while it's on the charger. For some, it seems to be a once per week thing. For others, it's happening daily. It felt like the reboot issue has most-often been reported by users on Verizon - to be certain, the reports in the forums do seem disproportionately high for Verizon Z10 owners compared to other carriers, but as you dive through the forum threads it is an issue that is definitely reported by at least some users across carriers around the globe. Have you experienced randoom reboots on your BlackBerry Z10? Read More » ...

Source: forums.crackberry.com --- Sunday, May 19, 2013
I recently purchased a Pdair flip top case for my BlackBerry Z10, which is advertised as having a built in magnet to sleep device to save battery life. I bought this case with confidence, as I had previously purchased a Pdair case for my last mobile phone. This was a BlackBerry Torch and that phone went to sleep as soon as the flip top came within a few millimeters of the screen. However, although my new case was made to the same high standard, it didn't cause my Z10 to sleep. My phone did go to sleep after a while, as it did without a case. So I contacted my supplier, who sent me a replacement but this was the same. They say they've sold lots of these cases for the Z10, but had no other complaints, and are awaiting a response from Pdair. So is it a faulty batch of cases? Does the Z10 have this function, or is there something wrong with my Z10? ...

Please note, this leak is not for all devices. This time it's just the STL100-2 & 3 getting some love so if you don't have one of those then you'll want to move along. This leak bumps the OS version up to 10.1.0.1880, and some people are already reporting improved performance and battery life. If you install this please be sure to share your findings in the comments below or in the forums. Just like every other time - be sure to read over the instructions before you get going. The latest leak lbfe over at CB Forums is version 10.1.0.1880 a bit higher than what is being released officially. LBFE says the battery life is much better on this one. I have not installed it yet and hopefully it is true as I am having the worst battery drained after loading BBM Channels. Will install and report back to you later. If you have it install let us know how it compared to previous leaks. Download Links: LINK ONE LINK TWO Install at your own risk, we are not responsible if you brick your device in the process. Below are some instructions on how to install the leaked OS. Installation Instructions if needed : Turn off your BlackBerry Z10. Run the file that you just extracted. Connect your Z10 to your usb cable and quickly turn it on . The autloader should connect to your Z10 and start the process. Sit back, have a coffee or a tea and wait until the process is finished. When the autoloader has written 100% , the program will terminate and the window will close. Disconnect your BlackBerry Z10 and wait for it to reboot. Your BlackBerry Z10 will now be in the position that it was in when you purchased it, so set it up as you normally would. The hit game Cut the Rope has made its way to the BlackBerry Z10 at last as it appears to be a featured game in BlackBerry World when loading the app store up. The game is a classic – just as addictive as Angry Birds and has been around for quite a while. We saw it initially launch last year for the BlackBerry PlayBook, and has finally made its way mobile to BlackBerry 10, but only the Z10 of course due to screen resolutions obviously. The other great news is that if you purchased this bad boy on the PlayBook already, you can just simply download it on your Z10 without needing to repurchase it. Some games/apps require a separate purchase even if you already own it on the PlayBook (Plants vs Zombies is a great example). Hit the link below to grab your copy today for only $1.99. Cut the Rope for BlackBerry Z10 >> Related posts: Cut The Rope now available for BlackBerry PlayBook Cut The Rope demoed on the BlackBerry PlayBook New Cut the Cable game for BlackBerry, similar to Cut the Rope – 20 free copies to win! He expected to be miserable missing out on Google Drive, Google Talk , Google Now and other Android apps. But he was shocked at how much he liked the phone, once he was set up with Google Apps for Business. ("It requires you to configure your Gmail as an exchange account.") He particularly liked BlackBerry Hub ("made missing important communiques very difficult") and the long battery life. He was less pleased with having to give up Netflix and Instagram and he struggled with a not-always intuitive gesture system. Still, after actually using it as a daily device, he liked it, though he's not quite ready to ditch the HTC One, with its bigger screen and Android apps. "My key takeaways from this experience are; the Z10 is a smoothly operating and highly functional smartphone which is particularly adept at mastering your messages. Also, as I expected from a BlackBerry device, the Z10's virtual keyboard is fast, accurate, and a joy to type with." Business Insider 's reviewer, Steve Kovach, came to similar conclusions when he reviewed it last month . The device was great as a work machine but not so great at play. Omio is now publishing hands-on pictures of the new OS, running from the flagship full touch screen handset, in the company’s portfolio. The first image shows that BlackBerry 10.1 is actually running on the device, with its array of new features. These two shots are of the new PIN to PIN messaging, offering direct communication between two BlackBerry’s. This will also be coming this year to Android and Apple is based devices, although basic BBM and group messaging will initially roll out. Above is the new, more accurate cursor control – where tapping once on the screen brings up the cursor. From here, you can grab the blue circle and then drag it around to the insertion point. The next few pics are of the HDR camera functionality of the BlackBerry 10.1 OS, with greater detailed images; the red-eye reduction and lastly, the landscape calendar mode. ...

BlackBerry Live 2013: Will there be a BlackBerry Z5 mobile phone, as a budget version of the BlackBerry Z10?

We asked if there would be a Z5, as a cut down version of the Z10 – in the same way as the Q5 is a cut down version of the Q10. Rob Orr responded “ You are in that roadmap territory ”, indicating he couldn’t really speak about that. He did add, “ We have said six devices, from launch, but no specifics beyond that ” “ [There will be] six devices in due course; we’re looking to address all the segments in the market ” “ Starting with the high-end, which was delivered in Q1 ” That isn’t a categorical denied and logic dictates that if the Q5 is budget version of the Q10, why couldn’t there be a budget version of the Z10. BlackBerry switched from using a Super AMOLED display in the Q10, to an IPS LCD version in the Q5 – while still keeping the same 3.1-inch screen size, and display resolution of 720 x 720. There was also a reduction of internal memory, from 16GB to 8GB and the megapixel count was brought down from 8 to 5MP. This could all be mirrored in the Z5; stay tuned and we’ll bring you more on this. ...
