Prisoner X: a new twist in the Ben Zygier story

Source: theconversation.com --- Wednesday, May 08, 2013
The case of Ben Zygier, the Australian who died in a high-security Israeli prison, simply refuses to go away. On Tuesday we learned more from an ABC special on Foreign Correspondent. In a twist that would seem beyond the imaginative powers of the best thriller writer, the ABC claimed that Zygier had undermined an ongoing Israeli intelligence operation to reclaim that bodies of soldiers killed in fighting in Lebanon decades ago. The Foreign Correspondent report effectively superseded Der Spiegel’s version of events in March which told us that Zygier had compromised at least two high-value Mossad agents in Lebanon through maverick action, resulting in their imprisonment, and the Mossad agent’s own incarceration in a top security Israeli prison. The Spiegel piece provided a plausible account of why the hapless, vulnerable Zygier might have ended up in this predicament. The outing of valuable, carefully and extensively groomed foreign agents in a key strategic location such as Lebanon can explain why Mossad should have treated this as a disaster. It is more understandable, then, why Zygier was deprived of his name and threatened with a lengthy jail term. The ABC programme undermined that particular rendition of the story, and raised more questions than it answered. No mention was made of two Lebanese contacts. Instead a Lebanese man, a Ziad al Homsi, was interviewed. After he had been unwittingly exposed by Zygier, he had been senten ...

What did Ben Zygier do to warrant such extraordinary treatment? Prisoner X: The Secret - Full Video

Source: whatreallyhappened.com --- Wednesday, May 08, 2013
Up until 8PM on Tuesday February 12, 2013 the identity of an inmate held in a notorious cell inside Israel’s Ayalon Prison was known to only a very select group of people. But when Foreign Correspondent went to air, the secret was smashed and the world would know that Prisoner X was a Melbourne man named Ben Zygier – a Mossad agent held on unspecified charges who’d somehow managed to kill himself in what was reportedly a purpose-built, suicide-proof cell. Our story rocked Israel, shocked Australia and reverberated around the world. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a special emergency conference of media leaders at which his Mossad chief urged editors and journalists to leave the story alone and continue to observe a strict suppression order on the case. It didn’t work. The story generated a great deal of coverage in Israel and beyond and our understanding of mystery man Zygier has grown in the months since. But burning questions persist unanswered. One is particularly red-hot. What did Ben Zygier do to warrant such extraordinary treatment? ...

Borman was the first journalist to expose the real identity of Prisoner X three months ago. Now, he has produced yet another astonishing segment in this scandalous story.

Source: www.israellycool.com --- Tuesday, May 07, 2013
ABC Australia’s Foreign Correspondent program has claimed that ‘Prisoner X’ Ben Zygier unwittingly sabotaged a mission to bring home the remains of IDF soldiers Zachary Baumel, Yehuda Katz and Tzvi Feldman, who were reported missing in action during the First Lebanon War. I have uploaded the report for your convenience. While the report is interesting, a couple of things in particular caught my attention. At 14:29, look at the image being displayed while Foreign Correspondent’s Trevor Bormann. Is the editor trying to paint Mossad in a pernicious light? At 21:07, Bormann incorrectly refers to the killer of former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin as “Amir Yigal.” His name, of course, is Yigal Amir. Meanwhile, according to the Times of Israel , former Mossad agents told Israel’s Channel 10 news that the report was “nonsense,” and that the Zygier case had nothing to with the case of the three soldiers. ...

Source: christine-milne.greensmps.org.au --- Thursday, April 25, 2013
"Now the report from the Israeli Justice Ministry has been made public, Minister Bob Carr needs to come clean on when he received that report and what action he took in the light of revelations that negligence was found in the prison system," Australian Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne said today. "The report found negligence in the prison and yet no one will be charged - Bob Carr needs to explain what action he took with the Israeli Government, what concerns he raised about the negligence of the prison guards, and provide answers on why Ben Zygier was not given extra care to alleviate his distressed state. "It is vital these questions are answered publicly to ensure this situation does not happen again." ...
