Tolossa Gedefa Fufi, 23, won the men’s field in the 102nd Craigslist Bay to BREAKERS on Sunday, finishing the 12-kilometer race through the heart of The City in 35 minutes 1 second. Hall finished in second place 39 seconds later. Like Gedefa Fufi, Hall was competing in his first-ever Bay to BREAKERS and his runner-up finish was the highest placement by an American since Ed Eyestone won the race 27 years ago. “I’d love to come back here and take another swing at this after running it once,” Hall said. “I’d love to come back and try to win it.” For the first 2.7 miles of the course, Gedafa Fufi ran neck-and-neck with fellow Ethiopian Tesfaye Sendeku Alemayehu, who finished fifth in last year’s race. The runners trudged up the Hayes Street Hill elbow-to-elbow, with Sendeku Alemayehu reaching the top first. But Gedefa Fufi pulled ahead on the way down the hill and led by about a half-block by the time he reached the Panhandle. He cruised through Golden Gate Park more than 30 seconds ahead of Hall, 30, who eventually pulled into second place. “[Gedefa Fufi] is just in phenomenal shape and he was not coming back,” Hall said. Sendeku Alemayehu finished third with a time of 36:04. The race was Hall’s first since the 2012 Olympic marathon. The race has built up a tradition of one of the most entertaining mass-organized sports spectacles of the year, as registered runners race through the crowded course that's often covered in unregistered participants looking to enjoy the event's tradition. Let's dive in and check out everything you need to know in this complete guide of the 2013 Bay to BREAKERS. When : Sunday, May 18 at 7 a.m. PT Where : San Francisco Route This year's Bay to BREAKERS starts out at Howard and Main streets and stretches down to Ocean Beach. A full map of the race route can be found here . Event's Tradition The Bay to BREAKERS is far more than a 12k race that a few people dress up funny and pre -game for. It's one of the biggest events of the year for a huge city that embraces creativity and standing out from the pack. Matt Striker of the San Francisco Travel Association summed it up best to the San Francisco Chronicle . "It's a 12-kilometer art project," said Striker. The race is a "pressure release valve for those of us that live here." People come to the Bay to BREAKERS for a number of reasons. Boston created chances -- especially through Lianne Sanderson -- but FCKC's defense was incredible in a 2-0 win. Boston GK Cecilia Santiago was tested throughout by Lauren Cheney, Renae Cuellar and Kristie Mewis, with Cuellar finding the net in the first half. The opening goal came in the 17 th minute when Cuellar managed to break away from Cat Whitehill and Kia McNeill, who were slow to react to the developing attack. That enticed Santiago off her line, leaving plenty of room for Cuellar to place her strike low into the net. Boston pressed the gas early in the first half as they tried to get back into the game. Sydney Leroux had numerous intelligent runs to link up with Sanderson and Heather O'Reilly, but the FCKC back line was defiant. Lauren Sesselmann did a nice job of defending throughout the half, holding off Leroux on a few occasions. The possession was back and forth with no side dominating for a great length of time in the first half. However, FCKC was able to control the closing minutes of the half, with Cheney and Mewis creating a handful of half chances. Boston's annoyance at their failure to score showed early in the second half, as Leroux started to play more physically, checking Sessleman to the ground on one occas ...

(Photo copyright Thad Bell.) Coming off their first loss of the season, FC Kansas City knocked the NWSL’s last unbeaten team back to earth. With goals from Renae Cuellar and Lauren Cheney, the Blues posted a 2-0 victory over the visiting BREAKERS Saturday night in front of 4,362 in Overland Park, improving to 3-1-1. The win vaults Kansas City third in the NWSL standings, three points behind the league’s leaders: Sky Blue FC and Portland Thorns FC. Boston falls to fourth, their loss leaving them 2-1-2 on the young season. FC Kansas City, coming off a 2-1 loss last week in Rochester, were without captain Becky Sauerbrunn, whose hamstring injury forced midfielder Jen Buczkowski into central defense. Midfielder Casey Loyd came into the team on the left side of the Blues’ midfield, with Sinead Farrelly falling into a holding role along said Desiree Scott. For Boston, Mexican international Cecilia Santiago was called upon in goal, with BREAKERS’ head coach Lisa Cole continuing the platoon policy between the 18-year-old and Ashley Phillips. Boston came out the stronger side from the opening kickoff, with Kansas City left to push the BREAKERS back off the counter. Near the quarter hour-mark, Kansas City gave Boston their first scare, with a close offside call the only thing stopping Renae Cueller from getting onto a through ball from Laur ...

With summer just about here, do you worry about bikini-body paparazzi shots. AT: Not really. I mean, I’m always working out, and I’m someone who doesn’t like to live my life based on photographers being outside my house. I’m actually most comfortable when I’m in a bikini, running around on the beach, like, no makeup. It’s really free-feeling, whereas I’m always having to get dressed up and putting makeup on. So you don’t worry about a nasty Daily Mail headline or something? AT: No. It’s so funny, people are always like, 'Oh my gosh, what do you do to get ready?' And half the time on vacation if I’m in a bikini, I allow myself, I eat like waffles and pancakes for breakfast, so that’s me after, like, a big meal. I’m not the one that’s like, 'Oh my gosh, I’m going to be on the beach.' And all the time people ask me like, 'Oh my god, what did you do to get ready for the red carpet? And I’m like, 'I just had Thai food.'' I love to work out and do cardio and have a healthy, active lifestyle, but I also am not going to, like, freak out over food. Do you work out with Zac Efron? AT: I haven’t talked to him in so long. He’s been doing movie after movie after movie, so he’s been, like, MIA for the last couple months. But I talked to him two months ago, he texted me. But I mean, his workouts are really different compared to mine, so I would neve ...

It's one of the few sanctioned city events you're allowed to attend in your birthday suit. On Saturday, however, in order to draw attention to the absurdity of banning nudity in the city while still keeping it legal on its most crowded and family friendly days, the organizers of "Bare as You Dare: Thong Parade" are encouraging people to don their best mankini or panties and join them at Jane Warner Plaza in the Castro, noon-2pm tomorrow, Sat/18. "Come hang out with us!" Press release after the jump: Saturday, May 18, 2012 From Noon to 2pm Starts at Jane Warner Plaza, San Francisco DON'T BE LATE! The THONG PARADE happens the day before the Bay to BREAKERS, so you have two great reasons to be in SF that weekend! Some city officials claim the nudity ban was implemented to protect public safety by totally eliminating the huge crowds that gather because of the naked people. Leathermen, drag queens, tattooed persons and lots of other citizens draw attention. WHO WILL BE BANNED NEXT? Tell your city leaders you don't want San Francisco sanitized! Wear a thong, a jock strap, a g-string, a cock sock, panties, briefs, boxers. Organizers have applied for a sidewalk parade permit. Bring a sign or paint a message on your body for a group march around the Castro neighborhood, along Market Street and the City Hall/downtown area. Route maps will be pro ...
