Unsealed search warrants show suspect in Shooting that killed 12 used iPhone to take pictures of movie-theater door James Holmes received six shipments of ammunition from an online retailer, carried a platinum MasterCard and photographed the door to the movie theater where he allegedly killed 12 people and injured 70 , according to court records released Wednesday. The information comes from search warrants unsealed at the direction of the judge overseeing the case against Holmes, who could be executed if convicted of the 20 July 2012 Shooting in Aurora, Colorado . The warrants show that in the hours after the attack, investigators wanted to search Holmes' bank records and an iPod Touch. They found that Holmes had received ammunition from the website BulkAmmo.com at his apartment in Aurora. Authorities wanted to determine whether he had received other material at the nearby University of Colorado, Denver, where he had been a neuroscience graduate student, or at his parents' home near San Diego. Detectives also wrote that on 9 July, Holmes downloaded a US Postal Service form to track shipments. That was around the time Holmes shipped a notebook and burnt $20 bills to his former psychiatrist at the university. That package was not found until after the Shooting. With the end of May in sight, Aurora is on track to be close to last year’s all-time low for the number of Shooting incidents occurring throughout the city. It started out as a typical night in the E.R. "Just a normal Thursday night," said Dr. Comilla Sasson, an emergency room physician at the University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora. Until a gunman opened fire on a dark, crowded movie theater. "All we got was the notification that said, 'Shooting, let the hospitals know we're coming.' And that was the entire notification that we got," she said. "We literally had one ambulance that night and nine police cars that brought 23 patients." She said the wounds were similar to a war zone. An extraordinary confrontation occurred today between the father of a victim of the Aurora Shooting last summer, and GOP Colorado Senate Minority Leader Bill Cadman of Colorado Springs. If you were one of the dozen or so in the audience today at the Denver Post's wrapup discussion panel with Cadman and House Minority Leader Mark Waller , or the somewhat larger audience watching online, most of the hour-long discussion was uninspiring boilerplate and complaints you've heard many times. The plea is widely seen as Holmes' best hope, and perhaps his only hope, of avoiding the death penalty. But his lawyers have held off until now, fearing a wrinkle in the law could cripple their ability to raise his mental health as a mitigating factor during the sentencing phase.
