Apple CEO Tim Cook’s employee approval rating dips, but still high in spite of issues

Source: venturebeat.com --- Friday, May 24, 2013
<img src="http://venturebeat.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/large_6082648816.jpg?w=1024&h=685" & width="150" & height="100" style="margin: 5pt 10px 0px 0px; float: left;" border="1" align="left" alt="" />When you start at 100 percent, there’s nowhere to go but down. Even so, Apple CEO Tim Cook’s approval rating among Apple employees is still very, very high. Apple’s been through some tough spots historically. And while anyone who remembers the “beleaguered” days of the late 90s and early 2000s can’t think that the company is in too much trouble right now, with the stock losing hundreds of billions of dollars and Google’s Android taking massive mobile market share , there’s definitely a sense that Apple’s best days might be in the rear-view mirror. But Cook has maintained 90-plus-percent approval ratings internally, according to Glassdoor : That’s just a shade below Steve Jobs’ lifetime rating of 97 percent. In addition, Apple employees are still pretty happy to be working at the iconic Cupertino company. Employee satisfaction, which reached a peak 80 percent in the middle of 2012 when Apple’s stock soared to over $700, has only dropped slightly to 78 percent. Which doesn’t mean that working at Apple is easy. Or that working for Tim Cook is easy. Cook looks for early hours, according to one Apple manager in Cupertino, who said he was “a CEO who demands work before 6 AM every day, and ‘accountability without control.’” And another Apple employee, an engineer, complained about work/life balance at Apple … or rather, the lack thereof. “No work life balance is to be expected while working at Apple. Weekly management reviews and expect ...

Source: forums.crackberry.com --- Wednesday, May 22, 2013
<img src="http://imageshack.us/scaled/landing/825/apple3web20.jpg" & width="150" & height="113" style="margin: 5pt 10px 0px 0px; float: left;" border="1" align="left" alt="" />"I've never seen anything like this and we don't know anybody who has ever seen anything like this," Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) said yesterday of Apple's baroque tax avoidance strategies. But Apple CEO Tim Cook, who will testify before the Senate Subcommittee on Investigations today, is* aggressively spinning what Levin called "gimmickry" as patriotic, commonsensical, and no big deal. Here are the most remarkable talking points from his pre-released Senate testimony: 1. Apple's taxes are straightforward. Spin: "Apple does not use tax gimmicks." Reality: Yet somehow, according to an analysis by Citizens for Tax Justice, Apple has paid almost no income taxes to any country on its $102 billion in offshore holdings. Between 2009 and 2012, Apple avoided paying US taxes on some $74 billion in income, an amount equal to the entire budget of Florida. 2. Paying American salaries through a subsidiary based in Ireland saves American jobs. Spin: Apple and its Irish subsidiaries are engaged in a "cost sharing agreement" whereby the subsidiaries "partially fund R&D costs incurred by Apple Inc." The agreements "play an important role in encouraging companies like Apple to keep R&D efforts in the US." Reality: This is how Apple brings back money from overseas without having to pay federal taxes on it. 3. Apple is awesome because it runs huge data centers right here in the United States. Spin: "In 2010, Apple built one of the country's largest dat ...

Source: sfist.com --- Wednesday, May 22, 2013
During yesterday's Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations hearing with Apple -- accused of avoiding taxes upwards of $74 billion -- Senator John McCain used the Q&A session with CEO Tim Cook to ask a few questions about his phone. (Ingeniously skirting the need to schedule an appointment at the Genius Bar.) Basically, the former Republican presidential candidate asked Cook why he couldn't get his gosh darn flibbertigibbet to update properly. [ more › ] ...
